The Role:
ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT AND JOB PURPOSE

To manage and supervise the Instrument maintenance trade team, both core and contract technicians to ensure that all maintenance activities and processes are progressed safely and efficiently. Ensuring that work is executed according to agreed priorities and in the most cost effective manner through interfacing with the Maintenance Coordinator, the Maintenance Planners, the Operations team, and the contract maintenance resources.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Act as Champion for the sites 20 Safety Principles
Ensures that relevant task risk assessments are prepared, carries out HSEQ audits as required and supervises the maintenance teams to deliver outstanding HSEQ performance at all times.
Liaise with the Operations support team, the Maintenance Coordinator and supports the Maintenance Planners and Scheduler to ensure maintenance work is prioritised and scheduled effectively.
Oversees the work activities of trade teams to ensure compliance with both site and company procedures and ensuring that technical standards are maintained.
Provide detailed feedback to the planning team updating them on progress, ensuring that expectations on productivity are achieved and where applicable updating and agreeing any changes to work norms that will help to improve the planning process.
Coordinates the interfaces between different trade groups to ensure minimal interruption to maintenance work ensuring that the required standard of workmanship, productivity and safety performance are maintained.
Supports the Maintenance Coordinator and the Maintenance Planners in coordinating the work of 3rd party companies and contractors to ensure effective working and adherence to site procedures.
Ensures work is assigned to correct work orders to ensure cost transparency and to assist the Maintenance Manager to control budget.
Proactively identifies plant defects and where appropriate feeds back to the Maintenance Coordinator and Maintenance Planner to ensure that repairs can be scheduled effectively.
Progresses improvement projects with plant engineers
Works with Maintenance Manager and Plant Engineer to identify shutdown work to enable those jobs to be scheduled into appropriate outages.
Identifies and encourages opportunities for maintenance activities to be carried out on shift by appropriately qualified production technicians.
Responsible for ensuring work is carried out to an acceptable standard, fully completed and the plant left in a clean and tidy condition.
Lead by example to encourage effective team working, flexibility and developing a culture of continuous improvement and when appropriate to work overtime to ensure work is completed and handed back to operations in a timely manner.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Education/Experience
 General education attainment equivalent to HNC level or relevant experience
 5 years relevant experience in the chemical industry with a good understanding of operations and maintenance processes.

Skills/Competencies
 Good IT skills
 Good communication and interpersonal skills both verbal and written.
 Good organisational and coordination skills.

Line Management Responsibility
 Direct line management responsibility for company Instrument Technicians.
 Indirect management of contract staff.
