Our client is seeking a Control Systems Technician for field oeprations in Alberta. Client is offering Fly-In-Fly-Out in Alberta to Spruce Grove, AB. Position is 20 days on/10 days off 12-14 hour days with majority in the field.

The Role:
Primary responsibility of this position is to setup, operate, maintain, and trouble shoot Computer Control Systems (CCS) for onsite MPD applications. The person selected for this position will be expected to rig in the CCS along with any sensors required to provide data for the CCS as well as access and use data from existing sources.

Job Specific HSE Requirements
▪ Knowledge of all equipment specifications, pressure test procedures, operating procedures,
maintenance procedures, QA and Health & Safety guidelines
▪ Conduct pre-ops safety meeting requirements and audits operational paperwork and records in
accordance with job file requirements
▪ Ensures operations are in strict compliance with all procedures and government regulations regarding
Health and Safety and Environmental requirements
▪ Familiar with all equipment certification and specifications, working limitations
▪ Safely and efficiently rig down, pack and back load equipment in a safe, organized manner

Equipment and Operations
▪ Set up CCS at wellsite.
▪ Interface CCS with various data acquisition systems.
▪ Carry out constant monitoring of equipment on site/location, maintain and calibrate on the job as
▪ Perform diagnostics, trouble shoot, repair and maintain essential inventory and replacement parts for
CCS, instrumentation, and flow controls
▪ Assist in operating and maintaining database and data collection at wellsite and insuring proper and
adequate data is collected and reported
▪ Assist in updating and calibrating CCS software to meet specific requirements.
▪ May make recommendations and devise new approaches for new and existing equipment, software,
and procedures
▪ Produce graphs for interpretation from raw text file data on a daily basis.
▪ Maximize efficiency of equipment within operating parameters
▪ Assist in preparing end of well reports
▪ Inform Field Forman / drilling personnel of any changes in operating parameters
▪ Other duties as assigned
▪ Certify and test chokes
▪ Troubleshoot PLC panels
▪ Troubleshoot automated systems
▪ Troubleshoot generators
▪ Green tag equipment
▪ Small pumps triplex pumps
▪ Hydraulics and solenoids
▪ Valves
▪ Choke manifolds
▪ Run and operate control systems

A diploma in electronics, instrumentation, or related field or the equivalent in industry experience. A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related field is preferred.

Candidates should have a minimum of four years' oilfield experience and at least two years working with PLC systems with projects delivered without exception. Previous experience as an MPD Control Systems Trained preferred.

▪ Understanding of PLC control systems.
▪ Understanding of interfacing protocols i.e. WITS and OPC
▪ Self-directed and demonstrates sound decision making
▪ Demonstrates a keen insight for the Control System
▪ Competent with Microsoft office products
▪ Excellent written and oral skills - must be capable of communicating with both technical and nontechnical
personnel at field and office level

MPD Control Systems Technicians will work closely with the following key personnel on location: MPD Supervisor, Systems Engineer, Company Men, Directional Drillers, Data Techs, Drilling Forman and Drillers. Instruction will be taken from the MPD Supervisor.

This is primarily a field position and requires travel on short notice. This position requires shift work with a typical shift length of 12 hours, however, including change-over between shifts and attending required meetings, the average day may be 14 hours. The rotations are based on a 20 day on and 10 days off schedule.
