The Role:
Purpose of the job

The Safety Coordinator will be involved in one or more projects (depending on size and complexity), Planning and coordinating the safety activities, and producing necessary documents for Safety (e.g. Safety Plan, Safety Case, Hazard Analysis Briefing Notes, Hazard Analyses, Hazard Log, Safety Requirements). Responsibility for ensuring the final safety evidences and document these in the Safety Case. Ensure the project complies with the RCS Safety Management System, supporting processes, procedures and applicable international standards in terms of safety and overall systems assurance and in adherence to the project / customer particular requirements. Work closely and liaise with the appointed Independent Safety Validator and Independent Safety Assessor to ensure a positive outcome (assessment) in accordance with the projects needs and schedule. Provide support in estimating work effort for bids and preparation of work package descriptions for Safety Works required by a project.

Key responsibilities

Responsible for analyzing the Safety requirements to ensure compliance can be achieved.
Develop, produce, support and maintain safety related documents to meet customer requirements for projects.
Provide assurance to the RCS management that the systems and products that we deliver to our customers will meet their safety requirements in service. Prepare and collate the required evidence to support the RCS Release Note and Declaration of Compliance to Type, to support the project Safety Milestones.
Identify hazards and risks and mitigations (Safety Requirements) relating to the project and work with Engineering to ensure their control or elimination. Advise projects to suitability of hazard and risk control measures to fulfil the requirements of the prevailing standards.
Work with the ISV and ISA to ensure any issues are fully resolved and a positive assessment can be achieved to meet the project schedule and safety milestones.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Qualifications & Functional Knowledge

Graduate in Engineering, Computer Science or Safety and Reliability.
Safety and System Assurance of railway products, systems or solutions or similar field.
Experience with design of safety products preferred.
Familiar with current safety related standards (EN50126, EN50128, EN50129 etc.), tools, methods and techniques for the assurance of safety critical and related software and systems.
Knowledge of Signalling Train and Control Systems, BT RCS products, processes preferred.
Microsoft office, Safety and RAM Analysis Tools (Fault Tree+, Reliability workbench).
Hazard analyses, hazard log, safety plan/case, validation plan/report.

Job Classification

Has good understanding of basic concepts and procedures in Safety Management and basic knowledge in related engineering disciplines.
Continues to acquire higher level knowledge and skills.
