The Role:
As a Mechanical Lead Engineer within Civil Nuclear, you will have the chance to work in both the Defence and Civil Nuclear sectors on both New Build and In-Service Support projects. In this role, you will be creating and manipulating design definition using CAD software, as well as liaising with our suppliers (internal and external) to ensure equipment is supplied in accordance with project requirements.

Our civil nuclear business provides nuclear reactor vendors and utility operators with integrated, long-term support services and solutions spanning the whole reactor lifecycle, from concept design through to obsolescence management and plant-life extension. Safety-critical systems have been supplied to around 50% of the global nuclear power plants in service and we've been a key player in the nuclear industry for more than 50 years.

Key Accountabilities
* Preparation of technical documentation such as design specifications, design reports and procurement specifications as well as substantiation against code and functional requirements.
* Hand calculations.
* Design-by-rule formulae and design-by-analysis using finite element software. Seismic and fatigue analysis of pressure components.
* Selection of materials.
* Understanding of risk assessments in accordance with legislative requirements

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
* Degree qualified applicants with a bias towards Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
* Working knowledge of standard engineering software packages such as ANSYS, Finglow, Mathcad, CAD packages such as Siemens NX, PLM software such as Siemens Teamcenter.
* Awareness of NDT techniques.
* Experience working with Static Equipment such as pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, steam traps, piping systems.
* Experience in leading design teams

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
* Nuclear experience .
* Membership of a professional engineering institution.
* Understating of Pressure Equipment Directive and a working knowledge of at least one the following codes is desirable: RCC-M; ASME BPVC Section III Division 1 ASME BPVC Section VIII Division 2; EN 13445.
