The Role:
Reporting to the Senior Commissioning Technician and ultimately the Commissioning Superintendent, The incumbent will be responsible for 'hands on' inspection, testing and commissioning of electrical facilities at Company sites.
Detailed Description
Assist Lead Electrical Technician to Inspect, calibrate, service, inspect, test, commission, install /remove, fault find and repair a range of electrical cabling, equipment, switchgear and protective components including:
Test and commission Power generators, both diesel and gas driven drivers.
Test and commission MV/LV electrical distribution equipment and associated cabling.
Pre-commissioning, test and energization of Panels, UPS and batteries/battery charger circuits.
Testing and energization of lighting and small power DBs, Instrumentation DBs, and power transformers.
Testing and energization of electrical consumers (motors, valves, heaters etc.).
Documenting the electrical commissioning results from activities listed above.
Supporting troubleshooting of electrical issues associated with the electrical equipment, cabling and components.
Verifying commissioning test results to support safe operation of the electrical distribution system
Supervision
Works directly under the guidance of the Lead Electrical Technician. Shall be capable of working independently and capable of recognizing basic problems and taking appropriate actions to ensure safe operation. Must be flexible to changing priorities and working conditions
Essential Abilities
Technical
Hands on electrical inspection, testing and commissioning associated with:
Transformers, MV/LV switchgear, feeders, circuit breakers, protection devices, cabling, motors, VFDs.
Experience with power analyzer, insulation tester, multimeter, testing tools.
Experience with Electrical configuration documents (wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, technical manuals, single line drawings) associated with electrical commissioning. Familiar with the application of Completion Management Systems for the control of Pre-Commissioning activities (checksheet and punchlist completion).
Familiar with the concept of Commissioning Systems and the representation of the same using Limits of System Hanover Documents. Must have worked and executed Oil & Gas upstream projects and experience to include minimum of 8 years testing and commissioning. Use of standard tools and test equipment in their discipline. Familiarity with PTW systems, tool box briefs etc.
General
Basic computer skills with modern day PC application packages.
Flexible on work locations and willingness to work outside discipline when required.
Ability to interface with client, multi-discipline company and contractor engineering personnel, fabrication, installation, hook up and commissioning teams.
Cultural awareness and the ability to work with individuals from different nationalities.
Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Potential candidates interested in the commissioning manager position MUST meet the following requirements:
Vocational electrical training as an apprentice and 8 years' experience of working in field based Construction / Commissioning environment in the Oil & Gas industry.
Fluent written and spoken English (Fluent French would be a strong advantage).
Experience working in Africa (preferable).
