The Role:
Working within the CAE group, and reporting into a wide range of projects, the successful individual will have a good understanding of 1D and 3D analysis tools & processes for thermal modelling, with focus on EV powertrains.

Job Responsibilities:
To simulate, analyse and then optimise a wide range of thermodynamic systems using 1D and CFD as the primary development tools. This will involve working with and presenting ideas to a range of customers from SMB's to major OEM's.

Operational Duties:
* Working within the CAE group with the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects both thermal and aerodynamic.
* Creation, development and running of complex thermal models to simulate a range of applications through 1D and CFD modelling.
* Detailed analysis of simulation results and creation of comprehensive post processing.
* To generate or supervise new designs to improve the performance of thermal systems.
* Generating cooling system diagrams and schematics with good understanding key components required.
* To work within a number of industries, not just Automotive.
* Able to take analysis based decisions providing guidance to the wider design & manufacturing groups.
* Presentation, reporting and discussion of analysis results and project material
* Correlation of analysis with physical testing.
* Work closely with project team to fulfil customer requirements.

Experience and Qualifications:
* A degree in a relevant engineering field, such as mechanical, aerospace, aeronautical, CFD or similar.
* Experience in the automotive or motorsport industry would be useful (or being anyway able to show that your extensive experience in an advanced engineering environment is transferable).
* Experience in EV powertrain or IC engine thermal management is essential.
* Knowledge or experience with refrigerant cooling systems would be of benefit.
* Experience in high-voltage battery energy storage thermal modelling would be of benefit.
* Specific knowledge/experience with battery cell characterisation would be useful.
* Radiator or heat exchanger specification and design knowledge would be of benefit.
* Experience generating thermal models using 1D analysis tools such as GT suite would be advantageous.
* Good CFD literacy in the main automotive/aerospace software packages, including one or more of the following: Siemens STAR CCM+, ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM.
* Experience of ANSA for geometry prep and surface meshing would be advantageous.
* Working knowledge of Siemens NX or CATIA V5 would be useful.
* Good working knowledge of proprietary PC software e.g. MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
* Ability to manage your own workload and projects.
* Ability to maintain high standards of staff and department presentation, as appropriate for a facility visited by potential customers and other VIP's.
* Some practical experience of physical testing (Test cell/ Wind Tunnel/ Real World) would be beneficial
* Understanding and experience of aerodynamic solutions would be of benefit.
