The Role:
VA / VE + Strategic Procurement Engineer

Reporting to: Head of Manufacturing

Role Purpose:

Working on current and future Battery Systems and Battery Manufacturing programmes this is a strategically important role within our clients Manufacturing team. The candidate will be the recognised first point of contact for manufacturing and procurement, and as a subject matter expert in engineering battery product design and function in the transitional phase from Engineering design through to manufacturing. Using your product knowledge, and experience in DFM, Value analysis and Value Engineering you will ensure that product can be translated from initial design, prototype and early stage manufacture into repeatable, low cost production units. You will analyse designs to facilitate and influence low cost product procurement and efficient manufacturing processes. You will have a strong continuous improvement ethic and seek cost down opportunities throughout the value chain.

Operational Duties:

* Working alongside product engineering design teams and product technical specialists from early concept through to final release identifying opportunities and strategies for ease of manufacture and low cost commodity sourcing.
* Ability to interpret and analyse product designs to identify low cost manufacturing and sourcing strategies and suppliers
* Lead and participate Product Design for Manufacture and Virtual Build workshops to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements within manufacture and simplification of product and process design
* Oversee prototype builds ensuring opportunities for further design and manufacture are captured and enabled.
* Working closely with procurement teams and their manufacturing partners - identifying the best value supply chain and partners to enable on time programme delivery and lowest cost highest quality solutions are delivered.
* Enable Make v Buy decisions within the businesses.
* Participate in the setup of productions lines and the development of manufacturing processes to ensure production is conducted on time, on budget and on cost.
* Lead the implementation of specific, focused 'Quality Improvement Programmes' to deliver year-on-year improvements, utilising KPI analysis, Pareto, FMEA and other relevant tools and techniques.
* Work closely with Procurement, Engineering. Manufacturing and Programme Management on strategic supplier selection for new products.
* Participate in customer/supplier visits to identify efficiency and cost reduction opportunities as required.
* Utilise Lean and Six Sigma techniques and methodologies such as PDCA and DMAIC as the basis for driving on-going process improvements.
* Deliver annual objectives set by functional manager.

* Minimum HNC/Degree in Engineering or Business related discipline (or equivalent).
* Experience of Battery systems / products and manufacturing processes essential.
* Experience in new product design / DFM / VA/VE
* Experience gained in a manufacturing, quality or supply chain quality environment, preferably in Automotive, Aerospace or similar sectors.
* Experienced in the use of business improvement tools and techniques (5s, Lean, Kaizen etc.).
* Experience of utilising APQP tools and techniques.
* Experience in the use of statistical analysis, process capability and problem resolution tools (8D, 5 Why, 6 Sigma etc.) and techniques.
