The Role:
We are seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer with underground mining experience to join our client's team on a full-time permanent position. Reporting to Senior Geotechnical Engineer in this role you will be responsible for the provision of a qualified geotechnical support service within the mine that will assist in the achievement of production and schedule targets, meeting all statutory and site specific standards including cost, safety and environment. FIFO from Perth this role is being offered on an 8/6 roster; there is also the possibility for longer roster of 2/2 due to current situation.

Key responsibilities:

  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of the Company and ensures that the Vital Behaviours are always adhered to
  • Daily production tasks relating to geotechnical engineering including review of development plans, stope and drill designs, design recommendations, QAQC etc.
  • Proactive communication of geotechnical issues in mining to the workforce and management
  • Conduct and partake medium term projects and feasibility studies as required by the mine to ensure mine wide stability.
  • Provide a geotechnical service to the mine through understanding, complying, mentoring and liaising with business partners to promote full statutory compliance
  • Collect and analyse geotechnical data including effective recognition, investigation, analysis of rock fall events and ground control issues.
  • Provide timely, accurate and proactive geotechnical guidance on mine design, planning and operations to achieve delivery of the production schedule and budget.
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement, regularly reviewing and identifying new opportunities and developing these on instruction
  • Actively identify and manage geotechnical risks within the operation and develop/uphold and maintain systems to monitor and manage these

Essential Skills / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering or Geology with Post Graduate qualifications in geomechanics
  • Circa 2-3 years' experience in geotechnical engineering
  • Around 1-2 years' experience in underground hard rock mining
  • Current WA Driver's License (manual)
  • Knowledge of relevant statutory obligations
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and mining software such as Vulcan, Deswik, Datamine, Rocscience, Map3D, mXrap
  • Geotechnical Logging and Sampling
  • Geotechnical Mapping

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mineral Economics, Commerce or similar
  • Financial management experience including the formulation and adherence to approved budget
  • Gold Mining experience
  • Structural Modeling exposure
  • Open Pit operational experience
