The Role:
Senior Petroleum Architect

This is a permanent and residential position based in the Head Office. A tax free salary and comprehensive benefits package with family status, educational assistance and relocation is on offer for the right candidate.

Scope of Work


Timely deliver technically sound and optimized development schemes with robust basis for execution, hence maximizing economic value for its shareholders, encompassing the promotion of innovative technologies bringing benefits to the field.
Demonstrate exemplary leadership in a highly cross-functional environment through autonomy, drive and budget accountability.
Provide management with key technical and economic elements to enable decision-making on future projects, in compliance with company standards in terms of design, safety and environment.
Ensure seamless validation by shareholders and local Authorities of development projects in line with contractual framework and regulations.


Senior Petroleum architect (also known as Development manager) is recognized as a key contributor to the articulation of strategy with a leading role within governance. The main activities are to:
Contribute to Al Shaheen Field Development Plan.
Contribute to business cycles, by providing relevant elements (scope, costs, schedule) for the consolidation of AWPB, LRBP and LTSV, as well as reserves (ARR).
Frame opportunities to support and recommend new developments while capturing innovative technologies to maximize and even unlock economic values.
Prepare Decision Support Package (DSP) to support decision making at each Stage Gates.

In the context of development studies (from framing to FID):
Establish the basis of studies (study content, deliverables, planning and budget) in relation with relevant entities (RGS, DW, FOPS, E&C, MP, HSEQ).
Collect, analyze and consolidate data for the studies, define and initiate surveys if necessary.
Coordinate the various disciplines during the study and ensure that deliverables are issued as expected, while challenging the solutions proposed by discipline to optimize value creation.
Ensure overall consistency of the technical dossier.
Ensure that milestones and budgets are met in conjunction with quality assurance process. In particular, organize a Development Review before any Stage Gate.
Guarantee that the development schemes comply with standards in terms of design, health, safety and environment.
Propose and promote through-out technical innovations in the developments generating incremental value.
Ensure that value engineering is carried-out as required to drive development costs down.
Compile the Decision Support Package dossier, and all associated documentation, for all Stage Gates.
Ensure the buy-in to the study results by management and all stakeholders.
Participate, as required, in technical exchanges with Shareholders.

Generally, the job holder is expected to contribute to improve methods and practices. In this area, activities are:
Improve development methodologies and tools.
Provide feedback on standards capturing innovative solutions implemented.
Deliver constructive criticism on the validity and content of studies.
Play an active role in HSE awareness activities set up.

Profile Required

Generalist graduate engineer, preferably holding a MSc Degree.
Well established analysis as well as synthesis skills. Excellent communication skills, combining people engagement skills, motivating transverse teams, and ability to elevate his points to senior management level, whether in the company or Shareholders. Organized and dynamic with an open mind and diplomatic skills.

The following professional experience is required in order to manage Developments projects of various level of complexity:
For the Senior level: At least 20 years of professional experience, with confirmed managerial capabilities and previous Petroleum Architect role in an operating company. Confirmed Business Acumen required
For the Confirmed level: from 12 to 15 years in the upstream sector and several years in a position with managerial or team lead responsibilities in an operating company and/or at an IOC HQ.
For the Junior level: a minimum of 10 years in the upstream sector, including several years as team lead with an operating company..

At all level, strong personal drive with high level of autonomy is fundamental in a highly transverse organization and lead role.
