The Role:
About the role:
The Environmental Strategy Manager is responsible for overseeing the environmental performance of the MD organisation and for developing, implementing and monitoring environmental strategies that promote sustainable development.

Main responsibilities:
* Ensure that the design and construction of the station complies with the technical and sponsor requirements, environmental commitments, environmental law and regulation
* Knowledge and practical experience of developing, implementing and improving EMS's certified to BS EN ISO 14001 accreditation
* Developing and implementing environmental design compliance procedures, and reporting
* Leading on environmental deliverables
* Providing leadership for environmental design solutions and ensure environmental issues and constraints are key considerations in project design
* Working collaboratively with technical specialists including engineers, construction experts, architects and environmental specialists to achieve world class integrated designs and develop appropriate and cost balanced mitigation strategies and solutions
* Developing the approach to environmental management delivery including the identification and control of environmental aspects and impacts
* Developing the approach to compliance and the evaluation of compliance with all environmental consents and the Employer's environmental requirements
* Developing and delivering environmental training, behavioural and performance management
* Monitoring, review and continual improvement of the Environmental Management Plan and its requirements
* Managing environmental non-conformities and complaints
* Environmental target and objective performance measurement and reporting
* Developing arrangements for incident and near-miss reporting and the testing of emergency preparedness
* Promoting advances in industry best practice
* Undertaking environmental audit of the supply chain
* Assessing environmental effects, developing mitigation proposals and implementing environmental designs to avoid or reduce environmental effects

Education & Experience:
* Bachelor's degree/MSc (or equivalent) in a relevant environmental discipline
* Membership to a relevant professional organisation (preferably chartered environmentalist status or working towards)
* Track record of managing environmental assessment and design on large or complex infrastructure/engineering projects
* Knowledge of relevant UK Environment legislation and current best practice guidance
* Experience in the implementation of the waste hierarchy and beneficial re-use
* Experience in materials, energy and carbon management
* Experience in managing sustainability assessments, rating and awards schemes for major infrastructure projects in urban environments (such as BREEAM)
* Experience in working with consents managers community, stakeholder and public relations managers
* Knowledge and practical experience of statutory environmental requirements
* Educated to degree level or equivalent in a related subject, with Chartered Environmentalist status and membership of a relevant professional institute (e.g. IEMA) (Essential)
* Registered as an auditor with the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (or equivalent recognised competent body) (Desired)

Behavioural Competencies required:
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills for a highly collaborative working environment
* Demonstrable skills working with multidisciplinary teams on a range of projects
* Strong numeracy, written and verbal communication skills and the aptitude to rationally explain, explore and discuss environmental issues
* Experience of liaison with stakeholders including statutory bodies
