The Role:

As the Team Lead, Claims for this growing, dynamic company, your primary objective is to:

* Suggest strategies on how to close foreseeable extension of time and grace period claim from the contractor
* Provide technical support to the Company to ensure the expedient and effective settlement of claims
* Lead the planning, direction and execution of all activities related to claims settlement
* Manage interfaces to ensure timely settlement of claims by liaising with all relevant internal and external parties


* Employ effective claims management methodologies to assess risk and escalate issues to executive
* Research and evaluate different risk factors associated with claims and provide relevant reports and advice
* Lead, support and communicate regularly with claims team members and ensure efficient utilization of personnel.
* Assist in the investigation and causation of claims against the Company
* Continuously analyse claims and provide recommendations on the settlement of same in a timely manner
* Suggests areas for improvement in internal processes along with possible solutions
* Responsible for updating and maintaining the Company's claims portfolio
* Identify, evaluate and implement processes to ensure superior claim outcomes
* Assist in the preparation for negotiations and settlement of claims
* Suggest strategies on how to close foreseeable extension of time and grace period claim from the contractor
* Work with project teams to help implement systems to avoid recurrence of claims
* Advise on claim status and risks associated with said claims
* Collaborate with relevant personnel to devise defence strategies
* Ensure that claims database is up to date
* Prepare reports, analyse data and make recommendations for settlement of claims.
* Represent the company in meetings, negotiations and arbitration
* Supervise and provide guidance to other staff as required
* Performs all other related job functions as required.


* Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a recognised university preferably Mechanical or Civil
* Minimum ten (10) years' experience of which at least three (3) must be at a managerial level in a chemical or petrochemical plant
* Knowledge of the Oil and Gas industry will be considered as an asset
* Demonstrated experience in handling commercial claims


* Ability to use initiative and demonstrate a positive work attitude with attention to detail
* Strong negotiating, mediation and arbitration skills with legal, financial and commercial issues
* Reports to work punctually and regularly
* Displays honesty, integrity and credibility in situations.
* Experience in supervising administrative and technical personnel
* Sound working knowledge of contracts, construction scheduling, and plant equipment
* Must be highly confidential and trustworthy.
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills including the ability to deal with ambiguity
* and reasoning skills
* Excellent technical research, written and oral communication skills
* Must be cooperative and willing to assist others
* Must have a positive, proactive demeanour resulting in great teamwork and collaboration
