The Role:
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Rock Mechanics Engineer who will support the Hermosa underground project with geotechnical expertise. The successful candidate will develop and implement geotechnical procedures and practices for the Hermosa project.

Accountabilities
Includes but not limited to:
* Working within South32 organization, establish rock mechanics policies, procedures, and techniques to support the Hermosa Project.
* Manage Geotechnical and Rock Mechanics contractors and consultants.
* Manage geotechnical and rock mechanics component of ongoing studies and planning activities.
* Develop, implement, maintain, and manage the Ground Control Management Plan.
* Develop and oversee a Rock Mechanics instrumentation program in the mine.
* Support and monitor test mining programs and the evaluation of mining methods.
* Establish and supervise QA/QC programs for ground support and related areas.
* Monitor performance of future paste and CRF backfill activities.
* Provide guidance on ground remediation, grouting, and ground stability issues.
* Establish and maintain database of rock mechanics information and performance to support MSHA and State regulatory requirements.
* Support preparation of Capital and Operating cost budgets.
* Develop, train, and mentor rock mechanics and geotechnical personnel.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field.
* Extensive experience of a similar role within the mining industry.
* Specific practical experience in underground mine development and operations.
* Knowledge of practical rock mechanics as applied to underground mining.
* Experience in a project transitioning from study to development phase.
* Working knowledge of 3D mine planning software, such as Vulcan or Deswik.
* Familiar with specialized geotechnical modelling software.
* Knowledge of underground mining methods, and paste backfill.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of software.
* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written).
* Driving company vehicle is required, must have a valid driver's license and be insurable under company insurance policy.
