The Role:

Patent Attorney - Chemicals - Germany - Permanent position with competitive salary, working for a global chemicals business as an in house counsel

An absolute powerhouse in the Petrochemical & Chemical global industry has a well-defined internal legal team, operating out of their American, British and German corporate offices, providing global and local legal support on technology and licensing.

With a key figure in the business planning retirement after 30 years, the business are taking the methodical approach of on boarding the successor now with a safe and lengthy handover planned.

As an internal representative you will be responsible for both the strategy and operational execution around IP management, with the added duty of legal drafting and submissions also.

This is a full spectrum role - you think you have what it takes?

What will you be doing?

* Resolving patent issues as well as proactively providing counsel for IP matters.
* Working with outside counsel on foreign filing and prosecuting patent applications.
* Implementing strategy across multiple technology fields and being involved in managing patent policies, identifying inventions at an early stage and assessing appropriate protection and award.
* Working with R&D to ensure total protection of technology and inventions.
* Conducting patent clearances to elude patent disputes, including advance infringement reviews and competition patent analysis, clearance opinion drafting and managing outside counsel clearance opinion preparation.
* Communicating with clients regarding status updates.
* Representing the company in patent oppositions proceeding and other adversarial proceedings in patent offices and courts.

What is required from you?

* Advanced degree in Sciences - Chemistry, Physics etc
* Part of fully qualified European patent attorney license or national qualification
* Experience with in-house or at a reputable patent firm
* Intellectual property legal experience

What would be added value?

* PhD in Chemicals or Chemistry
* Fully qualified European Patent Attorney License or registered qualification.
* Several years of working with a mid to large size corporation in the chemical industry.
