Are you seeking a new opportunity working within Powertrain, working for an innovative Automotive Client?
The Role:

Purpose of the Job;
The Head of Engineering will lead all vehicle Engineering activities from concept to operation of the first vehicle. The Head of Engineering will be a key member of the Board team
The role will cover two phases. In phase one, the 'Project Phase', the vehicle will be designed and a full project plan will be created with decisions made on how and where to build the vehicle and set the plans in motion.

In the second phase, the sustainable manufacture of the product will come on stream, and the role will oversee and control all of the engineering issues associated with the product.

Internal/External Factors
Internal factors: Quality management and standards; highest levels of engineering excellence; management of the internal + external engineering team;
External factors: Country regulations regarding homologation; emissions regulations; competitor activity; any legal restrictions versus predecessor vehicles

Accountabilities:
Delivering the strategic decisions on vehicle engineering into reality. Key member of the Head of Engineering Team to deliver all powertrain scope.
Work closely with and lead the powertrain engineering partner.
Develop, maintain and expand the relationship to the key powertrain components suppliers, particularly to achieve the key homologation requirement of emissions compliance.
Anticipate risks and develop mitigation approaches, especially as regards to scope changes and their impact in his/her area of expertise
Bring a robust portfolio of automotive industry networks and relationships
Coordinate third party suppliers (Engineering houses, Tier 1's) on all aspects of planning, scheduling and controlling for his/her area of expertise
Lead the cross-functional team on the Power Train areas

Level of education and experience in general:
The incumbent will have a strong technical undergraduate degree in automotive engineering, other engineering or science; the incumbent will have a minimum of 15 years' experience gained at either a Tier 1 automotive supplier or automotive OEM, and will be able to demonstrate direct knowledge of the automotive design and engineering process, from concept to industrialisation. Senior project management experience. Ability to communicate with Board level. High level technical communications with suppliers, partners etc.
Ability to negotiate with authorities, suppliers and partners at a senior technical level.

Technical skills:
Intimate automotive knowledge gained over a long career of multiple product launches; excellent project management skills, with a track record of delivery

Behavioural skills:
The incumbent must be able to build effective working relationships with internal clients and external supply chain;
must have strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills;
must be able to apply knowledge to critically assess employees and suppliers;
must be able to thrive in a multi-cultural environment.
The incumbent must be comfortable interacting with employees at all levels of the organisation.
Must possess advanced verbal and written communications skills and should be comfortable giving presentations.
Must display strong leadership skills and be willing to take a strong position on difficult issues.
The position requires handling multiple priorities and balancing a heavy demand environment with an even disposition.
Must be highly ethical, personable, a team player and adaptable.
In the project phase, the role will be based in Germany or home-based combined with the supply partner.
Regular visits to the UK.
In the operation phase, based at the manufacturing site.

Vehicle build budgets in all phases
Agreed quality KPI's
Successful staffing
Recruitment and retention of key employees
