The Role:
Responsible for directing all research and development strategies and programs for the Customer, including building and directing a high-performance research, development, and engineering center, and aggressively recruiting a leading engineering and scientific staff.
Serve as a recognized authority in the adaptation of high technology for wheeled and tracked vehicles and related weapons systems.
Provide advice to the Customer on new technology that will affect the future of land warfare, and on scientific and technological advances that should be anticipated. Present and support proposals and programs for the application of new technologies.
To be a technical expert in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes for the development, modification, and selection of various military weapons systems, and be a specialist in the automotive sciences. Their work includes the design, development, testing, selection, and acquisition of tracked and wheeled vehicles and associated support systems for equipping the LandForces.
Guide the RD&E Center laboratory staff in systematic, critical, intensive investigations directed toward the development of new or fuller scientific knowledge of a wide variety of technical problems presented for study by Technical Planning Department and other organizations.
Monitor scientific progress in the areas of close combat, armor, artillery, command, control, communications, tactical deception, signal intelligence, electronic warfare, chemical, biological, and radiological defense, target acquisition, and laser designation systems.
Assess fielded weapons systems and their inherent ability to work harmoniously with equipment of allied nations.
Establish the fundamental value of new technology or scientific development and its relevance to military operations and for devising defenses against new scientific developments likely to be employed by hostile forces
Integrate and coordinate the efforts of RD&E Center engineers and scientists in formulating concepts and proposals for consideration in improving capabilities.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Advanced degree required in one or more of the following engineering and scientific disciplines: chemical engineering, chemistry, computer science, electrical engineering, electronics, industrial engineering, materials engineering, mathematics, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, operations research, petroleum engineering, physics, and statistics. Professional registration isdesirable.
10-12 years of experience as a senior engineer or scientist in the management of a laboratory or RD&E center engaged in the design, modification, or adaptation of military tracked and wheeled vehicles and other weapons systems for use by land forces is required.
Knowledge of the new concepts of warfare and the technological implications inherent inthem
Demonstrated ability to critically evaluate materials and systems from a scientific or engineering point of view in order to determine actual or potential weaknesses or deficiencies, and to evaluate unexploited or underutilized features.
