The Role:
The client's vision is to be a leading international institution in terms of innovative technology solutions in the Offshore Renewables Energy Sector.

The Innovation Manager shall ensure that the business optimally uses its resources to engage with innovative organisations and continues to develop its position as the "go to" organisation for technical support and innovative collaboration.

This post will support the Marine Energy Engineering Centre of Excellence (MEECE), based in Pembroke Dock, which is being funded the European Regional Development Fund.

The Research and Disruptive Innovation (RDI) team lead he clients search for future technology. Carrying out foresighting, roadmapping and thought leadership, the RDI team identify cross-sector solutions and carry out research, development and demonstration to derisk new technologies. There is a strong focus on enabling high growth potential SMEs to enter the sector through technology assessment, identification of funding (public and private), test services and growth through commercialisation of new products and services.

Through MEECE, our client will be supporting Welsh companies by helping to develop, demonstrate, verify and validate new technologies. The Innovation Manager will support the MEECE Programme Manager on engagement with SMEs, developing support plans and tracking progress

As the first point of contact with target companies, the Innovation Manager will ensure that relevant company information is gathered and recorded, in accordance with the MEECE Monitoring and Evaluation Plan, and ensure that such records are kept complete and up to date. Acting in an 'account management' capacity, the Innovation Manager will have oversight of each project engagement with a target company, ensuring that such projects are kept on target and to budget, and will report any issues to the Programme Manager in a timely fashion.

* Identify and engage with high growth SMEs to develop support activities that will help the companies develop and commercialise new technology.
* Support strategic relationships with industry and academic partners relating to energy systems technologies.
* Support the planning and delivery of workshops and events relating to MEECE.
* Support the MEECE Programme Manager in delivering the MEECE project.
* Assist with the development of written deliverables such as internal progress reports and analysis of impacts.
* Contribute to development of the business through improvements to innovation management processes.
* Ensure compliance with the governance processes of MEECE
* To establish and maintain strong links with partners (industry and academic).
* Develop strategy for innovation programmes that will lead to the delivery of the objectives
* Support the development of a programme of innovation activities that will underpin MEECE's move towards the "thirds" model (deriving revenue from InnovateUK, other public and industry in equal parts)

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
To succeed in the role the Innovation Manager must have and be able to demonstrate the following:
* A degree or equivalent in a science, engineering or other relevant discipline.
* Good networking and communication skills.
* Excellent report writing skills for internal and external publication.
* Understanding of innovation funding programmes.
* Understanding the challenges of SME growth.
* Pro-active and self-motivated.
* Flexible and adaptable.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
The following are desirable:
* Experience of EU funding programmes, such as ERDF
* Excellent organisational skills
* Experience of writing grant-funding bids
* Data gathering skills through consultation, questionnaires and workshops
* Confident presenting to wide range of audiences (conferences, working groups)
* Experience of developing projects with multiple participants
* Good stakeholder management skills and confidence working with Directors, Senior Management (internal & external) and consultants.
* Innovative and creative thinking and the ability to articulate thinking.
