Job Description Summary: Reporting into the Associate Director, APAC Powertrain & Compliance Forecasting, the Senior Japan Powertrain Research Analyst is responsible for the generation and maintenance of vehicle engine, transmission, driveline, and hybrid/EV installations, technology descriptions and production forecasts. He/she will undertake desk and primary research with both vehicle manufacturers and their suppliers in a multi-disciplined environment. He/she will be required to use the results of that research to populate databases covering various components and subsystems. Information gathered will include fitment rates, technology, materials and supplier information. The Analyst will develop and maintain a network of dependable research respondents Job Description: * The analyst will ultimately take responsibility for supporting the Principal Analyst in the maintenance of the Japanese powertrain production forecast * In addition to traditional quantitative analysis techniques, the analyst will publish summary information and rationale for his/her forecast such as legislative, technological developments, system information, trend analysis and engine product cycle charts, i.e. a qualitative assessment * Researching information: The analyst will work closely to and take guidance from one of our Principal Japan Analysts, in the collection of Powertrain related information such as regulation, technology, and daily news in the Japanese market Based on the information collection and additional data sourcing such as vehicle actual sales and used vehicle powertrain statistics, the analyst will analyze the drivers and factors behind this information, and produce logical assumptions for the impact on the Powertrain forecast * Client Support: Key to our continued success is the close liaison with our customers, in order to ensure that their information needs be fulfilled. The Analyst will be required to support and defend information and forecasts delivered to clients, and should also ensure that clients optimise the benefits available from the use of our products and services. The Analyst will be responsible for building partnerships with clients in his/her region, dealing with their concerns and issues and providing general customer support. o Client meetings: Provide full preparation and support to the Principal Analyst in order to ensure effective client meetings, and help produce feedback material to customers in subsequent support o Email and phone: The analyst will be expected to answer questions directly to the client and provide support to customer in email and phone following appropriate training and experience
o Direct experience: More than 5 years direct, or at least a demonstrable affinity with, the automotive industry. Powertrain development (designing, experimentation, simulation related experience is highly desirable o Excellent analytical, writing and presentation skills, with proficiency in MS Office.High work ethic and ability to work to tight deadlines o Commitment and Integrity: Deals with others in a straightforward and honest manner, is accountable for actions, follows through on commitments, treats co-workers like trusted and respected colleagues, maintains confidentiality, supports company values o Quality: Is attentive to detail and accuracy, is committed to excellence, looks for improvements continuously, monitors quality levels, finds root cause of quality problems, owns/acts on quality problems, follows approved IHS processes o Support: Handles questions and complaints, responds quickly and professionally, handles problems politely and efficiently, always available to support all groups, follows procedure to solve problems, understands company products and services, maintains pleasant and professional image. o Timeliness: Consistently meets delivery deadlines; meets expectations; flexible with time demands; proactive in handling delivery adjustments/requirements. o Expertise: Provides constructive input within expert area to peers; understands the issues that will impact area of responsibility and how these issues impact our organization and/or clients; makes original contributions to area of expertise and applies tested ideas from other fields or areas. o Financial Success: Understands IHS' business strategies including its competencies, capabilities, products and services; recognizes and seizes cost saving and/or revenue opportunities; recognizes influence on and connection between responsibilities and company's financial success. o Growth and Development: Keeps appraised of industry and business markets; continuously seeks and uses feedback from others on all aspects of performance; identifies opportunities to apply new skills; proactive in pursing own professional growth. o Innovation: Proposes new internal processes; develops creative means to overcome barriers; analyzes causes of problems, develops alternatives and creative solutions. * An understanding of research processes and ability to interpret complex industry data and information * A strong technical understanding of automotive systems, particularly in the area of Powertrain * An ability to initiate and develop productive business relationships * Role-Based Competencies: o Data Coordination: Ensures timely and accurate delivery of data from sources; works with data sources in a professional manner; collects, organizes and stores data within a usable, accessible structure; works with product and technical groups to develop appropriate data format and structure o Data Analysis: Merges and/or combines disparate data into a coherent format and structure; deploys cleansed and consistent data through appropriate company systems; ensures data integrity; uses comprehensive quality control procedures to synthesize and integrate external data into company's systems; identifies and solves data consistency issues Requirements: * A degree in Engineering or Science. An Automotive technology element is desirable * More than 5 years in related automotive experience * At least 2 years of data management experience desired with emphasis on cleansing, importing, merging, formatting, and synthesizing large data sets * Well developed and experience with Excel and Powerpoint * Ability to visualize and compile large sets of data into a clear and useable format
* Proven ability to effectively communicate technical issues both verbally and in writing to non-technical people. * Fluent Japanese communication skills to include writing, interpersonal and listening in English. * Developed organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and effectively prioritize. * Proven ability to analyze, assess and interpret complex technical information. * Demonstrates flexibility and the ability to creatively problem-solve
