The Role:
Piping Lead, PPA

Are you a goal focused piping engineer who thrives on piping design and layout for complex greenfield mega-projects? If so, we want to hear from you! Join a high performance team located at our detailed engineering and design house then work at site in construction of our facility. You will be accountable for technical compliance to requirements for piping and you will lead and mentor the discipline engineering team in the application of our technical standards and risks associated with deviations.

Position Summary

The Project Assigned Piping Lead for the PPA (polypropylene) team, is accountable for technical compliance to requirements for the respective discipline and is responsible for leading and mentoring the discipline engineering team, in the application of technical standards and risks associated with deviations.

Responsibilities:

* Manage the quality and consistency of engineering on the project for their discipline
* Technical authority for implementation and enforcement of engineering requirements of the project including the technologies and technical specifications, standards and procedures for the piping design and layout discipline specific to the designated project area
* Ensure contractors are in compliance with all licensor specific technical requirements (UOP and Grace) and are producing and receiving approval of any required licensor deviations
* Audit contractor activities to validate engineering standards and project procedures are applied and any technical deviations are brought to the piping lead to implement at a program level as required
* Assure project technical and documentation requirements are met across all project interfaces
* Review and accept technical deviation requests (deviations from project standards and specifications) from the contractors and bring to piping lead for update and implement at a program level
* Participate in engineering reviews as identified in the project procedures
* Evaluate the performance and quality of contractors and SOC personnel
* Monitor technical compliance acceptance for module and offsite fabrication
* Monitor technical compliance acceptance for mechanical completion activities including systems turnover, commissioning and start up
* Attend, participate in, and provide guidance and technical input to all reviews including model reviews of contractor's scope of work and applicable mechanical equipment packages to ensure compliance with technical and human factors requirements
* Coordinate project plot plan and equipment location plan modifications through project specific change management process and report these to the piping lead for inclusion at a program level.
* Document risk associated with contractors field engineering proposed solutions
* Provide expertise where contractors do not have enough depth
* Support care plan support for maintenance and reliability and start-up planning
* Provide subject matter expertise with respect to their project
* Interface with the IPMT and challenge scope decisions in the context of project objectives
* Monitor conformance to standards and specifications and make recommendations for corrective action to discipline lead
* Evaluate the performance and quality of contractor personnel
* Witness factory acceptance tests (FATs) and final inspections of equipment and packages

Qualifications:
* Degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline and P.Eng.
* 20 or more years' related piping engineering experience in a project based role on multi-discipline projects or similar greenfield heavy industrial construction projects +500MM
* Strong knowledge and application of implementing and enforcing piping design and layout engineering requirements, technologies, and technical specifications, standards and procedures
* Reimbursable projects, commissioning and project engineering experience
* Current valid Alberta driver's license;
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn new systems quickly
* Petrochemical and/or oil and gas construction industry experience is an asset
* Stress engineering expertise would be beneficial

Working Conditions
* This position is based in Madrid during detailed engineering and design from 2020 until Q3 2021
* The successful candidate must be legally able to work in Spain and travel globally and within North America if required
