Recognised on the world stage to offer the best service to the industry, energy, process and utility markets, they now look to expand through recruiting this Senior Principal Structural Engineer in Melbourne.

The Position

Through exponential company growth and leading the civil market on some of Melbourne's major projects in the coming years - the position of Senior Principal Civil Engineer - Lead has become available in a permanent fulltime capacity!

This is a lead engineering position, required to supervise a team of engineers and designers with significant civil and geotechnical experience.

The basic function of the role is as follows:

  • Develops designs for brownfields modification projects without supervision that comply with local laws and regulations, as well as industry and company codes, standards and practises
  • Undertakes the role of technical lead to a team of senior, junior and graduate engineers
  • Develop project risk registers defining key risks to start-up of the overall project and its constituent projects
  • Develop verification requirements to determine the probability of risk occurrence
  • Review results of verifications and advise on required mitigations to overcome foreseen risks to project start-up
  • Define requirements for and participate in assurance activities to assess effectiveness in closure of risks

Required skills:

  • 12 years minimum experience in the Oil and Gas industry
  • At least 8 years shall have been in the civil and geotechnical with strong exposure to and knowledge of the civil discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualise, assess and develop civil and geotechnical designs from field data, including from remote locations, that are relevant to the local construction and physical environment
  • Ability to develop briefs for third party geotechnical consultants or site investigation companies to deliver inputs relative to the design project
  • Familiarity with construction methods and standards of local civil contractors, road and statutory authorities
  • An engineering degree from an accredited, recognised State College or University. A post graduate qualification in the geotechnical disciplines will be highly regarded
  • Familiar with discipline relevant US and Australian Industry Design Codes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with the client
  • Effective time management skills and ability to prioritise
  • Ability to transfer skills and knowledge to other engineers including remote teams working in different cultures

The Candidate:

As this position is a pure Civil Engineering position within the Australian civil sector, experience within this field is essential. Experience with management and leadership among intermediate civil and geotechnical level engineers is also highly recommended.
