The Role:
We are seeking

A Business Development Manager (BDM) has three primary responsibilities - Identifying new sales leads, growing sales through our products and/or services and maintaining fruitful relationships with prospects and existing customers.

The successful candidate must possess:

A passion for selling with a proven track record of sales success
The ability to quickly develop meaningful relationships with prospective clients, demonstrate positive intent and develop trust
A high-level of competency in at least 2-3 of the 4 arenas where we operate: Refinery Process, Fuel Additives, Water Treatment and/or Petrochemical Industries
The ability to quickly and effectively uncover "gaps" within competitively held programs and develop solutions that lead to proposals, trials and new business
The capacity to understand and overcome objections raised by the customer to advance the sales process
The capability to effectively drive the sales process by working collaboratively with the field sales personnel
The ability to marshal the required resources by working with Research, Marketing, Business Operations and Sales Management
The capacity to see the "big picture" and operate strategically versus tactically
The willingness and ability to travel >50% of the time in order to cover your sales geography
When it comes to generating leads, day-to-day duties typically include:

Researching client organizations and individuals at prospective customers to identify new leads and business opportunities for growth
Researching the needs of other companies and learning who makes decisions about purchasing
Contacting potential clients via email or phone to establish rapport and set up meetings
Planning and overseeing sales pyramid management for competitively held accounts
Attending conferences, meetings, and industry events
When it comes to the challenge of actually selling, other typical duties include:

Preparing PowerPoint presentations and sales call planning
Contacting clients to inform them about new developments in the company's products
Developing compelling quotes and proposals
Negotiating and renegotiating by phone, email, and in person
Developing sales goals and ensuring they are met
Training personnel and helping team members develop their skills
To build relationships with clients requires a high-level of engagement. From simple conversations on the phone and in person to lunches, customer entertainment or conferences, business development managers must frequently interact with prospective clients. Business development professionals are also obligated to report and provide feedback to the team and management about planned sales call activities and delivering on those commitments.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong communication
Executive presence and ability to call on senior management levels of a refinery or petrochemical plant
A high-level of accountability and drive to deliver on commitments
In-depth knowledge of the industry and its current events
The ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines
Skill in prioritizing and delivering on obligations
Attention to detail
Excellent time management and organization
