The Role:
The Senior Estimator is a critical position within the company and will be responsible for preparing complete, accurate estimates for all contract types for review by the Director of Preconstruction and Project Team. As the Senior Estimator, aggressive follow-up with subcontractors and vendors is needed to ensure that bids are received as required.
Prepare detailed accurate material, labor, equipment, subcontracts, construction facilities, etc. estimates.
Foster relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
Attend on-site pre-bid/proposal conferences and site visits
Develop and review subcontractor scopes of work / bid packages and accept, review, and analyze subcontractor quotes for best value
Ensure compliance with all specifications and contract requirements and Bid Invitations.
Present cost estimates to meet customer proposals, providing consideration for general and special conditions.
Prepare scope specifications and requirements, prepare and inputs project schedules, perform quantity take- offs, prepare cost summary sheets, and input quantities into estimating software
Maintain an accurate, current database cost codes of accounts for historical data
Review Company jobs and compare on a timely basis to as-contracted estimates to confirm accuracy of estimate.
Utilize the appropriate company and industry historical data for pricing estimates
Solicits and maintains communication with subcontractors and vendors during the estimating process
Transmits addenda and other bid information to subcontractors
Ensures that we have the proper scope of work from subcontractors on bid day
Develops RFI's and clarifications and ensure adequate subcontractor scope and bid submissions
Performs a comprehensive "bid day" analysis and scoping of specific assigned trades
Understands how to fit subcontractors to the size and scope of each bid project
Essential Skills / Qualifications:
4 year degree in Building Construction or related
2-5 years Related Estimating Experience
Advanced project estimator skills that include performing engineering calculations, being conversant in engineering nomenclature to effectively communicate with Architect, Engineers, Project Managers, Subcontractors and Vendors
Strong analytical skills
Excellent communication skills
Strong attention to detail
Ability to read, understand and organize construction plans and specifications
Strong organizational and problem solving skills
Ability to work independently and with minimal structure while exercising great judgment
Strong Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet established deadlines
Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, Power Point, Word, Outlook), OST and BlueBeam.
