The Role:
Fircroft are working with one of Europe's leading electricity and gas companies to recruit a Shift Operations Technician on a permanent basis.

We are looking for a highly motivated person, with a technical background, to join the team at CCGT Power Station at Kings Lynn.

Due to the nature of the requirement to provide flexible electricity, the demands of the operator can be quite intense and the individual needs the ability to be responsible for an ever changing process environment, and also during reactive periods able to dynamically think and assess situation, ensuring the right safe and commercial decisions are made.

You would be required to carry out front line maintenance as required by the location on a complex and diverse range of equipment. Operations are on a 24/7/365 basis to meet the fast paced scheduled and often-unscheduled production targets, this ensures the safe production of electricity to meet customer requirements, best business value and compliance with company and statutory requirements.

The Role

Key responsibilities include:

* Working within a core shift team of 3, often working unsupervised, the teams duty is to safely operate the plant, conduct proactive operations and maintenance tasks and ensure that the safety of the station is maintained.
* Conducts plant operations and plant checks such as chemistry analysis and routine inspections. Able to operate equipment locally in a safe manner.
* Maintain environmental and Safety standards on site, working with HSE policies and procedures.
* Operates plant and conducts tier one maintenance on all designated plant areas (inside and outside duties) with a focus on Health, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) compliance and availability, taking actions to deliver customer service and achievement of business plan.
* Responsible for accurately maintaining station and operating logs in a timely manner for statutory compliance purposes.
* Work closely and interface with the maintenance team, identifying plant issues and assisting the maintenance process in there resolution.
* Assist in operating the Permit to Work (PTW) system at an authorised person level with the application of the safety rules, work release and emergency procedures to ensure compliance with site procedures and undertake the duties of a designated person.
* Interacts with internal and external bodies such as NG in respect of energy requirements and supply to ensure awareness and understanding by all.
* Communicating with the trading team to optimise the performance of the plant, monitoring plant efficiency and performance, and advising on improvements.
* Ensures full awareness of the technical condition of the asset and is proactive in ensuring that any issues that may affect the HS&E, production capability availability are accurately notified and acted upon.
* Support and handle contractors ensuring that they work safely
* Performs routine maintenance, inspections, testing to plant items to ensure readiness for return to service and later efficient production, compliance subject to relative proficiency and asset requirements.
* Provide 1st line of support for plant breakdowns, and undertaking maintenance work when required
* Ensures that a comprehensive and detailed handover takes place between shift teams to maintain continuity of safe operations.
* In addition to being appropriately authorised within safety rules, aligning with site and company safety rules, policies, business procedures and carrying out duties relating to HS&E requirements of the operating activities including: On a shift basis takes action to ensure Legionella risk is accurately handled & carrying out audits.

The Company:
Our client operate a large and diverse portfolio of power generation assets in the UK. They are the countries second largest generator of thermal flexible capacity, supplying around 10% of the UK's electricity last year with 8.6GW of installed capacity. The portfolio includes the UK's largest fleet of gas-fired power stations, along with some coal and a small amount of biomass.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Owing to the technical nature of this role you must hold a minimum of ONC (or equivalent experience) in an appropriate engineering subject.
An HNC or equivalent is desirable or having completed a recognised formal training programme or apprenticeship to achieve technician status (C&G parts I, II &III). It is beneficial to have previous experience within the power generation industry.
