The Sr. Capex Estimation Manager is responsible for managing an internal team that owns the overall capex estimation process for Wind, Solar, and Energy Storage projects. This includes incorporating inputs from key stakeholders from across the organization as well as considering the latest internal and external data and resources available. The Sr Capex Estimation Manager role is a strategic role which has high visibility across the organization and will support the executive investment approval process for all new projects. The responsibilities include creating pricing projections, tracking and trending equipment and labor costs as well as working closely with teams across all functions of the organization in support of creating and maintaining a holistic capex estimation approach. Daily coordination and collaboration with various internal teams in efforts to support the development of comprehensive, detailed, project capital cost estimates, unit rate sheets, RFP reviews, bid reviews, and supporting investment analyses. The Sr. Capex Estimation Manager will be responsible for reviewing and approving all capex estimates and producing tools, analytics, and reports to ensure consistency and accuracy of estimates as well as summary reports presented in a suitable format for use by senior management.

*Manage and lead the Capex Estimating area in preparing, developing, maintaining, and updating project capital cost estimates, budgets, forecasts, and cash flows
*Work with internal project stakeholders to gather all relevant information to prepare accurate and consistent project estimates including Engineering, Construction, Project Management, Development, Procurement, Origination, and other departments as needed
*Works closely with Planning and Controls to update, maintain, and create budget estimates for Engineering and Construction
*Develops, estimating personnel and tools to enhance estimation and budget tracking competencies and ability to produce accurate estimates in a timely fashion
*Provides necessary training and direction to all estimating personnel to make sure they perform at the necessary level to accomplish Capex Estimates in a timely and accurate manner
*Challenge budget line-items as needed with the objective of achieving the most optimized estimates
*Review and analyze existing work breakdown structures utilized in estimates and budgets for optimization and improvements
*Create and maintain unit-cost database and published cost indices to prepare estimates
*Prepare and price value-analysis options and suggestions
*Prepare comparison of current and previous estimates and actualized project costs
*Develop and maintain intelligence regarding trends in cost of services, materials, and commodities in the various regions in which the company operates
*Creates and maintains project schedules and cash flows related to projects.
*Creates and maintains project tracking tools and reports for senior management
*Additional duties as required

Direct reports: 3-5

Travel: 10%+

Minimum qualifications:
*Excellent communication and team building skills required.
*Ability to successfully and efficiently manage teams and multiple capex estimates with inputs from several stakeholders on an on-going basis
*Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
*10+ years of experience in the energy business in an analytical, statistical analysis, estimation, budgeting, quantitative, or financial modeling function
*Strong knowledge of currently available estimating software and tools (Winest, Modelogix, etc.)
*Microsoft Office, including MS Excel modelling, proficiency required,
*Experience with Winest, Modelogix, and MS Project software preferred.

*Ability to successfully lead a team and collaborate effectively with several stakeholders
*Estimation and budgeting experience on large capital projects
*Ability to prepare estimates and budgets with a high degree of accuracy
*Ability to work well both independently and as part of an interdependent team
*Ability to quickly learn the company's existing estimating/budgeting and scheduling systems, and to provide recommendations to enhance the current process
*Ability to quickly understand the basics of a variety of subjects relating to wind, solar, and energy storage, including civil and electrical engineering designs and detailed drawings, purchase orders and change orders, construction related processes, environmental and cultural studies, transmission issues, taxes, finance and energy sales
*Strong interpersonal and multi-tasking skills
*Strong analytical and quantitative skills
*Understanding of basic financial principles (IRR, NPV, Depreciation, etc.)



Bachelors or better in Engineering or related field.


Masters or better in Engineering or related field.



10 years: 10+ years of experience in the energy business in an analytical, statistical analysis, estimation, budgeting, quantitative, or financial modeling function
