The Role:
Overall purpose of Role:
To assist the Company by supporting the Health & Safety Manager in developing, maintaining and ensuring the continuous improvement of the health and safety management system, and ensuring full compliance with all HS&E Legislation.

Main Responsibilities:
* Ensuring that procedures, practices and controls are in place to deliver full Company compliance with all relevant legislation.
* To ensure that continuous improvement is demonstrated, maintained and promoted to safeguard the health, safety and welfare of all employees, contractors and visitors to the site.
* Offering support and advice to all other departments regarding Health & Safety issues and acting as a mediator in cases where there is disagreement.
* Encouraging a Company culture that prioritises a safe working environment
* Identifying and carrying out health and safety training and toolbox talks where required, as well as carrying out safety induction training for new employees and contractors
* Participating in accident and incident investigations
* Liaising with the relevant regulatory bodies regarding COMAH compliance and ALARP / best practice principles.
* Working with relevant industry bodies to share knowledge / best practice and assist with the upkeep of our industry standards.

Safe Working Environment
* Developing and continuously improving the Company Health & Safety Management System (HSMS) through identification of clear objectives and milestones
* Ensuring compliance with all relevant H&S legislation
* Working with the Health & Safety manager and relevant department areas to set achievable timescales for delivery of the actions outlined in the Company and Department Safety Improvement

Plan
* Liaising closely with the Quality Manager to ensure ongoing compliance with the integrated management systems.

Working Together
* To be a proactive, motivated and supportive member of the Health & Safety Team
* To uphold our values and behaviours, being honest, encouraging, accountable and respectful in all interactions with our colleagues
* Communicates statutory requirements to departmental / line managers
* To represent the Company at external forums e.g. SWA committees
* To provide a professional interface between the Company and regulatory bodies e.g. HSE
* To be actively involved in the Company performance and development review process
* Continuous Improvement
* Takes a proactive approach to H&S issues and endeavours to promote a culture of continuous improvement
* Maintaining legislative and any applicable technical knowledge
* Maintaining individual CPD as part of any professional body membership(s).

Customer Satisfaction
* Providing competent and professional support and advice at all levels regarding health and safety matters
* Involving stakeholders in any safety improvement projects and ensure results are delivered on target and to budget.
* Excellence Through Quality
* Providing accurate Company information through consistent collation and measurement of health and safety data
* Implementing competent and good quality health and safety training and awareness throughout the business

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
* NEBOSH General Certificate
* Membership (Graduate, Affiliate, Associate or Full) of a related professional institute e.g. IOSH, IEMA, CQI, CIWM, IES or CIWEM
* Intermediate PC Skills: Formula and graphs in Excel, import photographs in PowerPoint, high standard of document production and report writing.
* Trained, competent and experienced in Permit to Work systems, risk assessments and method statements
* Solid knowledge of current HSE legislation and guidance
* Experience of implementing safety management systems
* Excellent spoken communication skills in order to present and explain health and safety processes to a range of people
* Experience of conducting health and safety related investigations and managing the necessary outcomes/actions.
* Experience in delivering training

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
* Degree Qualified in a Relevant Discipline e.g. Science, Safety/Environmental Management
* NEBOSH Diploma or NRCQ equivalent
* NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety
* NEBOSH Certificate in Process Safety
* Train the trainer course
* Experience in a unionised environment
* Experience of working on a COMAH site
* Experience in a manufacturing or FMCG environment
* Experience with COSHH Regulations
