The Role:
OIMs are key players in the success and development of the offshore business. The role is multi-disciplinary offering the incumbent an opportunity to demonstrate clear leadership within a sharply focused business and technical environment whilst developing and honing people management and business skills. This is a tough demanding job, but one which offers excellent development and good rewards as well as the satisfaction of doing a difficult job well. This is a worthwhile broadening role for staff from many disciplines who wish to demonstrate key leadership ability and qualities. Candidates who do not possess a formal operations background will be provided with the necessary coaching and support to ensure key competencies are acquired.
OIMs are the senior offshore managers on each of their installations. Their role is to lead the installation team, plan and prioritise activities in order that objectives are achieved safely, in a cost effective and timely manner. The OIM has a vital role to play in providing leadership and alignment with Company principles, vision and key objectives.

HSE - Management of emergency response, stimulation and implementation of programmes to improve HSE in the offshore environment, compliance with Safety case, and incident investigation.
Legal Framework - the OIM is the legally responsible person in the eyes of regulatory authorities for the day to day operation of the installation
Cost and Profit - to manage the day to day operations, optimisation of short term cash flow in the maintenance of equipment without compromising installation integrity or profitability. Stimulating and implementing ideas to improve performance.
Operational Integrity - Management of offshore asset in accordance with approved standards, codes of practice, and operating procedures.
Investment - To initiate improvement in plant and working practices to improve overall installation performance including supporting reservoir management. Assume a proactive role in the development, implementation and commissioning of platform modifications.
People - Develop clear understanding of and alignment with the Company's strategies and objectives. Role model and champion values and behaviours. Own development of staff within their leadership area.

These vary depending upon installation, typical production levels are 3-12Mm3 per day with gas export ranging from 0 - 4 MMm3 per day.
Platform manning ranges from 40 - 160 with predominantly contractor staff. Well engineering activities also vary from full drilling sequences to no platform rig work or subsea interventions.

The role demands a high degree of leadership skills and commercial awareness to achieve the breakthrough performance needed to deliver commitments to the Shell Group.
The OIM is a business manager accountable for business performance offshore.
The challenge is to motivate and develop an ""esprit de corps"" within the platform team along with a drive for furthering business opportunities and efficiencies.

Candidates are expected to have proven management experience in a technical environment with the ability to rise to a senior role within the respective discipline. The OIM role is an ideal broadening opportunity for high potential staff.
Candidates will be expected to demonstrate natural and unforced leadership with vision, courage, motivation and good networking skills at all levels. They will be expected to draw a balance between command and control (in emergency situations) together with an empowered approach to business and people management. They will require the capability to manage complex technical facilities and have a clear grasp of the position of the platform from a business perspective.
