The Role:
Working within the Process Engineering team, you will be an integral part of the delivery of engineering solutions in the Nuclear New Build market. You will be responsible for progressing the design of process systems (fluid treatment, liquid waste collection, gas/steam/condensate/liquid distribution, site services) for major Nuclear New Build projects.

You will support design and engineering activities, take ownership of certain aspects of the project and be responsible for managing project technical staff, reporting upwards to Senior Engineers.

Main activities to include:
* Preparation of process design deliverables. To include: system descriptions, control and operating philosophies, design verification reports, DSEAR assessments, nuclear safety and classification reports, P&IDs, PFDs and equipment lists.
* Perform sizing calculations for process systems and components, summarising in sizing reports.
* Demonstration of component/system compliance to the nuclear safety case and overarching nuclear safety functions of the plant.
* Preparation of equipment/package specifications, interfacing with vendors, addressing technical issues, bid evaluation.
* Contribution to inter-disciplinary design reviews (piping, layout, safety, human factors, C&I), justification of engineering changes, management of system interfaces.
* Planning of work in accordance with the project schedule, identify project risk, delegate tasks and activities to junior engineers/technicians.

Building strong and trusted relationships is a key part of this role. You'll enjoy working with others, sometimes directly at client sites, sometimes from our offices. You'll be project focused - being able work effectively in the team to understand the project requirements, produce quality deliverables and meet project deadlines will be key.

In addition to having strong technical, analytical and numeracy skills, other key requirements include:

* Degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
* Chartered or near chartered member of the IChemE or IMechE
* 5+ years of relevant industrial experience- in the absence of power or nuclear industry specific experience, we would require experience of work associated with a highly regulated industry (e.g. Oil and Gas, Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals, Water)
* Experience of major engineering projects (optioneering studies, concept studies, FEED, EPC)
* Experience in the design of thermal power systems / fluid systems / nuclear processes
* Experience in working with vendors
* Experience in safety evaluation of process systems (HAZID, HAZOP, ALARP)
* Demonstrable ability to communicate well, especially with the written form
* Strong organisational skills, working/delivering to project deadlines
* Demonstrable ability to work to project procedures and external standards
* Knowledge of the ABWR design / thermal power systems / fluid systems / nuclear process design
* The ability to speak French or Japanese would be an added bonus
