Lead Mechanical Engineer Role overview:

Main purpose of the role:

The Mechanical Engineer is principally a hands-on design based role with a degree of team leadership. The Lead Engineer can be responsible for delivering a package of work within a project. You will have frequent liaison with other disciplines in the design team and within the client. Lead engineers are the main interface between senior management and hands-on design.

Position of the Mechanical Engineer within the organisation:

Based within the Project Engineering Consultancy division at Harwell reporting to one of the Senior Engineers.

Key responsibilities…
*Development of designs to satisfy technical specifications
*Prepare supporting design calculations to substantiate design
*Check design calculations of designers and other engineers within the team
*Actively contribute to design & safety reviews (Risk Assessments & HAZOP's) from technical standpoint
*Preparation of technical specifications in liaison with client and project team
*Produce design documentation throughout the design process including scope of works, method statements, risk assessments, technical files and other technical documentation to comply with design standards, safety legislation/regulatory requirements and those of the client
*Prepare installation, commissioning and operating documents
*Planning & allocation of workload to other members of design team in order to deliver package of work
*Management of sub-contractors providing niche services to the design

The Company:
Our client is a nuclear specialist, covering both civilian and defence sectors, across the complete lifecycle from New Build, through Operations and Maintenance, to final decommissioning and waste disposal.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
*A recognised Engineering Certificate such as HNC/HND
*Demonstrable experience in a design and project management environment gained within the nuclear industry
*A strong ability in the use of Autodesk Inventor and AutoCad
*Experience of CE Marking of equipment would be an advantage.
*Be systematic, methodical and quality driven
*An ability to work to tight deadlines
*Be a strong team player.
*A full UK driver's licence
