The Role:
Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Role
1. Comply with UK Legislative, Regulatory and Company Safety requirements
a. Recognise COMAH regulations Process Safety implications
b. Participate in incident investigations as required
c. Responsible for maintaining relevant documentation to reflect current National/International and Corporate/Business Unit standards and develop fit for purpose Teesside standards
d. Take accountability to remain compliant in your role by completing any required training in a timely manner

2. Laboratory Analysis
a. Collect routine samples from all areas of the Seal Sands and Greatham facilities as detailed in the sampling/analysis schedule
b. Perform testing of water, crude oil, NGL and gas samples as detailed in the sampling/analysis schedule DP.TL.SAMP.09
c. Ensure analysis is carried out in an accurate and timely manner
d. Report results using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
e. Manage routine schedule to support changing workload priorities
f. As a qualified First Aider provide medical assistance as part of the site emergency team
g. Assist in the annual sample point audit reporting findings to the Laboratory Shift Coordinator, or any other relevant goal
h. Maintain clear and effective communication channels and work within priorities set by the Laboratory Shift Coordinator
i. Adhere to recognised work practices and procedures including implementation of improvements to practices and procedures
j. Progress various weekly / monthly checklists
k. Respond to Emergency incidents as required under the guidance of Incident Controller/Supervisor
l. Complete daily log sheets and shift handover logs

3. Financial / Contract and Personnel Management
a. Generates ideas for cost saving/efficiencies
b. Coach, support and mentor team members / peers.
Business Expectations
a. Support the Line Manager
b. Interact with internal and external business parties as required
c. Active participation in Network of Excellence and Knowledge Sharing

Competency Requirements
* Chemistry degree preferably with a significant analytical chemistry content - Essential
* Extensive experience in a laboratory role within the oil and gas industry - Desirable
* Experience of the operation of an analytical laboratory - Essential
* Knowledge of laboratory quality management systems - Essential
* Strong understanding of oil & gas storage and processes - Essential
* Ability to work at height - Essential
* Hold a Full UK driving licence and to drive company vehicles where appropriate - Essential
* Ability to use Microsoft packages and SAP - Essential
* Appropriate Physical and Mental Capability to undertake the role - Essential

Our client a UK based refining and marketing company, have interests in a number of facilities in the United Kingdom, employing around 1000 people throughout the UK and over 33000 worldwide. They have had their presence on Teesside for over 30 years, processing and storing crude oil ready for shipment along with being an established supplier of bulk fuels, including LPG, to the commercial, aviation and marine industries.
