The Role:
Main Purpose of the Role
-Provide cost engineering support (including ad hoc costing advise, value target setting & detailed piece-part and/or investment cost estimates) to Buyers, Design Engineers and Module Leaders during concept and development stages.
- Coordinate, support and influence the design, development, manufacture and introduction of components and systems, working with cross-functional teams to ensure cost, quality and logistics objectives are achieved
-Establish both piece cost and investment targets for total vehicle (by assigned function) at system/ sub-system and part level
- Monitor and identify cost variances and movements from agreed targets throughout project life, updating Group cost reporting systems as necessary
- Assist in the development of existing and new Suppliers by providing Cost Engineering support as and when required
- To asses and report on new technologies and applications where appropriate
- Support current and ongoing product cost reduction programmes
- Conduct detailed analysis of supplier cost models/Quotation Analysis Forms in order to identify anomalies and/or area of weakness to be focused on during subsequent price negotiation so as to secure a 'best value' outcome
- Lead/manage Lean Manufacturing workshops at supplier premises as required, using a variety of tools in order to identify the non-added value content and/or key cost drivers for subsequent elimination (if possible) or, at least, minimisation so as to provide a selling price that is both realistic and acceptable to the Group and the supplier
- Promote cost engineering/Estimating Best Practice within the company, including Engineering and Supply Chain staff in order to further develop their commercial awareness
- Gather, analyse and collate information relevant to the role for use during cost estimating and/or supplier price negotiations
- Support product 'Tear-down' events and cost related project work to ensure timely reporting and cost effective conclusion to the benefit of the Group

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Skills & Experience
-Solid Product Cost Management, Estimating and Process Planning experience within a Production
- Engineering/Manufacturing environment ideally with an automotive OEM or tier 1 automotive supplier
- Excellent numerical/analytical skills
- Purchasing, Procurement and knowledge of Automotive Cost Estimating/Engineering practices are highly desirable including Kaizen, Poke-Yoke, Kanban, Value Analysis/ Value Engineering and Cost Modelling techniques
- 'Whole Vehicle' component and system manufacturing process/ materials knowledge
- Cost estimating, value engineering and cost control experience
- Knowledge of cost accounting practice
- Excellent 'face-to-face' negotiation/influencing skills
- Practical knowledge and experience in lean manufacturing techniques
- Practical Industrial Engineering skills (ie work-measurement, method study, process engineering)
- PC literate especially Excel, Word and Powerpoint
- Able to read and interpret engineering drawings
