The Role:
The Electrical Systems & Data Logger Engineer is responsible for all aspects of Data Logging and maintenance of the vehicle Electrical Systems as applicable to the Quality & Reliability vehicles. The role provides the competence necessary to plan, equip and maintain electronic data loggers fitted to the reliability vehicles, and the data generated.

The role also provides the competence necessary to maintain the Quality Reliability fleet to the latest Electrical System ECU hardware & software levels to ensure the Reliability vehicles remain fit for purpose. The role also carries the responsibility for supporting partner testing station capability with Bentley systems.

1. Data Logging - Planning and Preparation
* Define the Data Logger requirements for each Reliability vehicle on a project by project basis in agreement with Quality & Engineering.
* Agree budget requirements and procure Data Loggers and associated hardware.
* Define the requirements for the preparation of the Reliability vehicles as regards to the installation and interfacing of the Data Loggers, and agree all required deviations during and after the build of the cars.
* Co-ordinate all logger preparation activities during and after the build of the Reliability cars.

2. Data Logger Installation, Commissioning & Maintenance
* Provide all instructions to the Workshop to install and commission the loggers ready for use.
* Ensure successful installation of loggers, including testing and commissioning.
* Liaise with supplier to ensure configuration files are available and working correctly.
* Co-ordinate the maintenance and repair of the Data Loggers as required.
* Ensure that all data is uploaded to appropriate systems for timely access to all data logs to support issues resolution, and that all data is stored for the required time periods.

3. Vehicle Electrical System Update Planning and Preparation
* Ownership of the end-to-end process for ensuring that the Electrical systems on the fleet of test cars remains up-to-date and relevant.
* Determine the detailed update requirements for each car based on the specified version list and current car status for each Electrical IL (Integration Level) and resolve any ambiguities.
* Identify and procure the hardware and software required to carry out an IL update on the fleet.
* Assimilate the information required by overseas testing stations to carry out an update, and create the workshop tasks in ALPOS for the vehicle updates.
* Represent department in Change Control Board meetings.

4. Vehicle Electrical System Update Execution & Reporting
* Provide instructions to the Workshop and overseas testing stations via the ALPOS system to enable the IL update to be carried out.
* Support overseas testing stations in the execution of IL updates.
* Monitor the progress of an update across all participating stations.
* Report the progress of all IL updates to the business and testing stations, and escalate any issues as appropriate.
* Report the detailed status of the cars to the business.

Additional Info:
* Required to support partner testing station capabilities with client systems.
* Defining and planning logging requirements for vehicles including preparation of cars.
* Maintaining loggers for a fleet of up to 60 vehicles.
* Exporting and Converting log files into presentation format for analysis
* Updating electrical systems in accordance with version management changes during launch phase and beyond.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Skills & Experience:
* Experience of installation, commissioning and operation of automotive digital electronic recording devices in vehicles, including designing and procuring any necessary interface hardware.
* Creation of software configuration files and export and conversion of log files into presentation format.
* Familiar with the use of vehicle electrical system diagnostic equipment.
* Proven skills in work planning & effective communication.
* Minimum of three years of engineering experience working in the Automotive industry.

Practical & Technical Knowledge:
* Knowledge of vehicle data bus design and operation (CAN, Flex Ray, MOS, Lin Bus).
* Layout and operation of automotive vehicle electrical architecture.
* Configuration and operation of Digital Signal recording equipment.

Qualifications:
* Degree or HND in Electronics or Computer Science, or similar.
* Technical German language skills useful.
