The Role:

MAIN GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

To undertake Type Approval/Certification for all vehicles for the North American market with regards to Powertrain certification; fuel economy, tailpipe emissions testing and OBD.
Planning, testing, compiling relevant technical information and facilitating compliance for future and current projects.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Support and Lead Certification approval of assigned subjects and markets.

* To work proactively with the engineering functions to ensure that legislative and certification requirements are "designed-in" at the earliest appropriate stage.
* To ensure that any unique requirements are captured within the vehicle specification, and to liaise with Group partners tasked with delivering and securing approvals.
* To work with functional system owners to ensure that all required component and systems are appropriate for given projects.
* To ensure that all required approvals are obtained in a timely manner.
* To undertake Legislation investigations and ensure that it is understood, communicated and tracked as necessary.

Delivery of projects

* Responsible for Type Approval/Certification of systems and market specific data which, when introduced in to production, are safe, compliant with regulations and otherwise fit for purpose (including product liability requirements) and which satisfy Manufacturing, Service and Conformity of Production requirements.
* Responsible for planning, monitoring and expediting specified tests, documentation and Type Approval/Certification of vehicles and systems.

Problem Solving

* Ability to solve complex Engineering related problems. Analysis and management of several design related issues to identify the root cause.
* Collect, manage and analyse data to produce reports/presentations as appropriate and progress design guidelines. Deliver presentations at appropriate level.

Developing and maintaining Specialist knowledge

* Responsible for keeping the local team up-to-date with technology in area of responsibility. Capture learning from previous experience. Understand and maintain liaison with group partners to keep up to date with latest group developments.

Ability to work within a team

* Able to work effectively in the functional team. Support of own contribution in delivering team objectives.

SPECIFIC INFORMATION FOR ROLE

Responsible for delivery of specified Type Approval/Certification activities required to support projects or new specification introduction, in fulfilment of quality, cost and time requirements.
Responsible for delivery of system and market approvals
Responsible for securing evidence of component approval from responsible functions

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Experience and knowledge of Gasoline Powertrain systems and certification activities related to those systems. Experience specific to this is preferred, other closely related experience will be considered.

The candidate needs to have an eye for detail and a structured approach to work.
Ability to communicate at various levels across the company in different forums.
German language preferable.
Ability to solve problems.

PRACTICAL & TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

The primary focus is North American Powertrain certification so an understanding of OBD requirements and emissions testing are core to the role.

QUALIFICATIONS

Engineering Degree or equivalent experience
Associate membership of a relevant professional institution preferable
