The Role:
Responsible for providing in-depth technical knowledge and guidance to support and deliver all CO2, fuel/electrical energy consumption and range prognosis activities to ensure the achievement of business objectives to the defined Product Emergence Process (PEP) on time and within budget.

Scope of the Role:

  1. Target setting and feasibility:
  • Represent department requirements in project target setting activities
  • Provide technical input into target feasibility studies

  1. Prognoses and status reporting:
  • Generate CO2, fuel / electrical energy consumption and range prognoses for reporting at PEP gateways in all key market regions (Europe, China & NAR)
  • Working together with engineering functions to identify measures, technical and strategic, to close gaps to target

  1. Legislation / market requirements:
  • Keep up to date on emissions and fuel economy legislative requirements
  • Provide legislative interpretation for discussion within department
  • Determine and gain agreement on worst case test configuration to support certification test activities

  1. Vehicle testing and correlation activities:
  • Plan and execute vehicle level testing as required to collate engineering status
  • Plan and execute CO2 and E-range sensitivity analysis for the relevant legislative drive cycles
  • Provide input into Whole Vehicle CO2 and E-range simulation activities
  1. Maintain effective communication internally and within the client's group.

  2. Deliver to development and/or investment and unit cost targets.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in an appropriate engineering discipline, or equivalent with the appropriate level of experience.
  • Proficiency in German language would be an advantage.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experienced professional working within the automotive industry
  • Demonstrable experience of automotive product development with both conventional and hybrid powertrains
  • Practical experience in emission testing and certification
  • Good analytical skills and ability to solve complex engineering related problems
  • Good business awareness and ability to make, and influence decisions within business context
  • Ability to share technical knowledge effectively with others, coach and guide as appropriate
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to communicate at various levels across the company in different forums

Practical & Technical Knowledge:

  • Automotive product development in powertrain engineering / certification
  • In-depth understanding of gasoline & Hybrid vehicle test procedures
  • Experience working with INCA, AVL Drive/Cruise, Matlab Simulink or DiagRA software preferable
  • Knowledge of emissions / CO2 regulatory requirements
  • Emissions calibration experience would be an advantage
  • Comprehensive knowledge of vehicle systems influencing whole vehicle energy consumption
  • Knowledge and application experience of problem solving tools and skills
  • Ability to travel internationally and work flexibly as required
