The Role:
Main Goals & Objectives:
Deliver Engineering systems and components to meet the requirements of the Project Description Brochure.
Responsible for the specification, test and validation plan to achieve the cost, weight, timing and quality targets for the project. Achieve engineering signoff for systems and components in area of responsibility.

Main Responsibilities:
1. Support and Lead Design Development
Awareness of Design and development techniques and technology in area of responsibility. Ability to capture and specify the design requirements in area of responsibility. Awareness of the Engineering test & validation planning and sign off for systems and components in area of responsibility.

2. Delivery of projects
Responsible for planning and managing project related activities on a daily Basis. Reporting of project status for area of responsibility in local functional area. Understanding of cross functional working with other areas of the business. Awareness of working with suppliers for progressing project deliverables. Financial awareness of their role in the organisation.
Able to work effectively in the local team. Awareness of own contribution in delivering team objectives.

3. Problem Solving
Ability to solve Engineering and design related problems. Analysis and management of individual design related issues to identify the root cause.
Collect data, manage data and analyse data to produce reports as appropriate and progress design guidelines .

4. Developing and maintaining Specialist knowledge
Responsible for keeping one's self up-to-date with technology in area of responsibility. Capture learning from previous experience. Understand and maintain liaison with VW group partners to keep up to date with latest group developments.

5. Accountable within function to meet project deliverables
Responsible for developing and maintaining technical knowledge/capability.
Self-education through evaluating competitor vehicles, reading technical literature and maintaining a network of contacts within the industry and educational establishments.
Responsible for defining and planning own work for approval by Functional Manager.
Developing and maintaining sufficient understanding of the mechanical systems/components.
Accountable for design and validation of components/systems which, when introduced into production, are safe, legal and otherwise fit for purpose.
Accountable for timely delivery of all product engineering activities to meet start of production and for reporting progress, together with own recovery actions where necessary, to Functional Manager and at formal Project Reviews.
Identify and analyse alternative design solutions to satisfy functional, technical, legal and styling specifications, in line with engineering strategies, initially from existing supplier capability, but if necessary through initiating/conducting original design/development.
Design and release for prototypes and production the overall system to integrate with whole vehicle system requirements to satisfy the agreed targets.
In conjunction with Functional Manager, agree component and system validation and certification requirements to satisfy BMC/VW Group standards and International safety legislation.
Accountable for planning, monitoring and expediting all test, validation and certification of systems/components.
Manage/execute the tests identified in test and validation program and resolve any engineering problems and produce and issue the required documentation for approval.
Complete the formal sign-off system with supplier/contract house and through internal processes, in agreement with Functional Manager.
Manage, monitor and, if necessary, expedite, supplier and/or external design house activities concerned in the design, testing, release and delivery of the prototype parts. (which may also be necessary to support initial production.)
