The Role:
MAIN GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

To work alongside the departments Technical Manager to Engineer class leading Automotive HVAC refrigerant systems. The Engineer will be responsible for specifying, detail design and validation of appropriate systems and components into the company's products. Bentley is looking for a recent Mechanical Engineering graduate with Thermodynamics experience who wants to develop their skills in the field of Automotive HVAC refrigerant circuits. They should have a sound theoretical & practical Engineering background and be keen to learn and highly motivated. Catia V5 IBM accredited certification is mandatory


RESPONSIBILITY/TASKS AND CUSTOMERS

  • Accountable for design and validation of components/systems which, when introduced into production, are safe, legal and otherwise fit for purpose.
  • Identify and analyse alternative design solutions to satisfy functional, technical, legal and styling specifications, in line with engineering strategies, initially from existing supplier capability, but if necessary through initiating/conducting original design and development.
  • Calculate component & system performance. Request CFD calculations and interpret results
  • Manage detail component design, packaging, and data release activities Develop hardware for new vehicles & model year updates in line with interior performance targets, manufacturing, legal, cost, weight and timing requirements.
  • Through consultation/agreement with Technical Manager select appropriate solution.
  • Compose / maintain design FMEA
  • Accountable for defining and planning own work for approval by Technical Manager.
  • Develop activity timing plan for assigned features using MS Project, identifying all relevant activities and their customers/suppliers (internal and external) and obtaining their agreement/buy-in.
  • Through consultation/agreement with Technical Manager define timeline & deliver to agreed milestones Manufacturing
  • Accountable for planning, monitoring and expediting test, validation and certification of systems/components to demonstrate successful achievement of 1&2 above.
  • Manage/execute the component & system tests identified above, resolve any engineering problems and produce the required documentation for approval.
  • Complete the formal sign-off system with supplier/contract house and through internal processes, in agreement with Functional Manager
  • Accountable for timely parts release for prototypes and production and for timely delivery of all product engineering activities to ensure timely vehicle launch to quality and cost.
  • Accountable overall for parts release to Purchase and Manufacturing in line with parts timing targets loaded in the company part level timing system.
  • Manage, monitor and, if necessary, expedite supplier and/or external design house activities concerned in the design, testing, release and delivery of the prototype parts (which may also be necessary to support initial production).
  • Accountable for timely delivery of all product engineering activities to meet start of production and for reporting progress, together with own recovery actions where necessary, to Functional Manager and at formal Project Reviews.
  • Developing and maintaining technical knowledge/capability.
  • Self-education through evaluating competitor vehicles, reading technical literature and maintaining a network of contacts within the industry and educational establishments & via the Technical manager who will offer technical guidance and support
  • Identifying and justifying attendance at seminars and formal training courses. Developing and maintaining sufficient understanding of the mechanical systems/components.


SPECIFIC INFORMATION FOR ROLE

1. Accountable for identifying any issue or risk affecting feature/system delivery, for recommending remedial action, for ensuring this is visible and understood by the Technical Manager and that appropriate action is taken.
2. Makes recommendations on supplier selection.
3. Advises Supplier Quality Assurance of standards required/achievable and can arbitrate disputes.
4. Approves production concessions and permits.
5. Agrees vehicle assembly processes with Manufacturing Engineering.
6. Formally signs off systems/components to the approved internal process and with suppliers.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Recent Mechanical or Automotive Engineering graduate with Thermodynamics experience. Ideally some HVAC refrigerant circuits exposure.

PRACTICAL & TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

They should have a sound theoretical & practical Engineering background and be keen to learn and highly motivated.

Appropriate engineering degree
