The Role:
Main Goals & Objectives:
The purpose of this role is to assist in delivering a comprehensive occupational health screening and treatment service for the business that meets Company and legal requirements. This includes carrying out pre-placement screening, health surveillance, fitness for work assessments, statutory medicals and case management. The role also provides education and advice to ensure that the risks to health arising from the work environment are minimised and support general health and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:
1) Develop, maintain and monitor robust health surveillance, health screening, pre-placement screening and driver / statutory medical programmes for the business.
a) Ensure delivery of health surveillance/ pre-placement screening programmes and effective recall systems
b) Provide management reporting and advice regarding fitness for work in accordance with medical confidentiality
c) Provide education and training on a 1:1 or group basis
d) Support the medical emergency response service
e) Interpret and apply legal requirements
f) Utilise the Company OH Software System for records and appointments.
2) Provide advice, guidance and support to the business.
a) Provide advice / coaching / recommendations to management on colleague / worker fitness to carry out their roles / potential alternative roles. This includes decision making regarding future capability (i.e. dismissal, ill health retiral and workplace adjustments / restrictions) and may require in-depth understanding of the individual's capability in relation to roles across the business.
b) Provide advice to line managers, HR, Colleagues and Trade Union representatives as required
c) Provide education, training and awareness on health matters
d) Liaise with Health & Safety as required.
3) Provide a management referral service in relation to capability / fitness for work.
a) Provide advice to line managers, HR and workers
b) Assess individuals for fitness to work taking account of work and non work related factors
c) Carry out work place assessments and specialist risk assessments where required
d) Provide recommendations regarding suitable adjustments / interventions / solutions utilising in-depth knowledge of work activities and individual's capabilities

4) Develop / support the development of Occupational Health protocols / procedures
a) Define protocols and templates
b) Provide education for the OH Team
c) Audit against the protocols and report findings
5) Develop and implement initiatives and interventions that aim to improve the overall health of the workforce
a) Develop annual health and wellbeing programme, selecting appropriate themes / elements based on health trends both internally and externally
b) Devise and deliver health promotion materials and events
c) Provide education

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Skills & Experience:
* General nursing experience
* Experience as an Occupational Health Practitioner

Practical & Technical Knowledge:
Systems & processes
* Knowledge and experience of working with the OPAS CASS Occupational Health Software System
* Knowledge of HR policies and processes in relation to health and wellbeing (e.g. attendance, return to work, rehabilitation, ill health retiral, capability)
* Knowledge of occupation health risk associated with a manufacturing environment
* Maintaining contemporaneous, accurate and confidential records on all colleagues attending the Occupational Health Department.
* Fully conversant with Microsoft Office with a high level of keyboard skills and accuracy
* Experience and currency of venepuncture, audiometry, spirometry and related screening skills
* Experience and currency of resuscitation, immediate care and first aid skills
* Knowledge of proactive interventions aiding return to work and management of adjust
