The Role:
The Production Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, agreeing and delivering detailed planning requirements for both series and pre-series products as allocated to them by the Planning Manager. The Production Planning Engineer must deliver to the agreed Quality, Cost, Health and Safety and Delivery targets whilst ensuring IATF16949 and VW Standards compliance.


1. Technical
a. Responsible for delivery of Quality Planning processes and activities in line with Product Emergence Process (PEP) in line with audit requirements
b. Responsible for manufacturing sign-off of Bid specs and product B-release in-line with project timings and PEP deliverables if applicable to role
c. Identification and resolution of concerns through concerns tracker and VW Systems if applicable to role
d. Identification of Jig, Fixture and Tooling requirements with design and procurement if required
e. Ensure continual updating of technical knowledge. E.g. Liaison with Group Colleagues, Benchmarking, Training etc.
f. Management of permits and concessions

2. Financial
a. Delivery of projects within agreed budget targets
b. Management of project cost risks
c. Supporting justification for Capital Expenditure Investment
d. Supporting Process improvement workshop activities to achieve production time targets

3. Planning
a. Concurrence of responses to Business requirements, Engineering change & technical documentation (e.g. TCD and ECR/AEKO etc).
b. Generation of deliverable milestones & monitoring detailed Project plans
c. Work in close conjunction with other areas of production planning and launch quality centre to ensure a consolidated approach and the continuous development of effective and efficient ways of working
d. Work cross-functionally and influence changes within products and processes.
e. Support development and creation of layout plans

4. Project Management
a. Delivery of all projects in accordance with Business requirements (Quality, Cost and Timing) and alignment with PEP
b. Pro-active avoidance or containment of Project risks

5. People
a. Supporting of team initiatives and activities in relation to Stimmungsbarometer and colleague engagement
b. Responsible for ensuring that all new materials and processes have been assessed against our health and safety policies
c. Responsible for self-development in line with job requirements

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Demonstrable experience in
* Manufacturing build process knowledge and business legislation (inc Health & Safety)
* Concerns identification, problem solving and continuous improvement experience
* Business financial management and acumen
* Effective cross functional communication
* Project management
* Risk mitigation & containment
* Advanced Product Quality Planning
* Jigs and Fixture development
* Layout planning
* Ability to read and interpret engineering specifications and measurement data.

* Extensive practical knowledge in Problem Solving Techniques
* An understanding of dimensional management analysis
* Ability to Evaluate K and P times in line with Manufacturing Business Strategy
* An understanding of measurement techniques
* Knowledge of dry builds and properties strategy
* Extensive knowledge of vehicle build processes
* Knowledge of the Product Emergence Process and gateway deliverables.
