The Role:

The calibration of automatic transmissions in vehicles to meet all related legal, project and customer requirements. To ensure that the optimum levels of driveability and quality are delivered within the scope of the project. Typical requirements include (but are not limited to):

* Creation of product strategy and attributes for a transmission project.
* Calibration of TCU shift strategy to deliver the project and technical attributes of the particular model.
* Direction and monitoring of the supplier to ensure the shift quality attributes are delivered.
* Compilation and validation of data to and from the supplier (including hardware specified limits).
* Planning and coordination of vehicle preparation and instrumentation (assisted by Calibration Technician).
* Plan, supervise and conduct transmission testing activities both on site and globally (HFT/CFT etc.)
* Co-ordination, liaison and participation in cross functional technical issue resolution with client, group and supplier partners.
* Provide Calibration expertise and support to other business functions where necessary.
* Continued professional development, ensuring current and new techniques are understood.
* To be aware of project budgets and consider financial impact when raising orders.
* Generate and Maintain development timing plans, PVR and status reporting documentation.
* Support the implementation of calibrations into the production environment.

Scope of the Role

1. Transmission Calibration
Primary activity is to calibrate the shift strategy of the automatic transmissions to ensure that it is always in the appropriate gear for the driving situation and delivers the client's driving characteristics. This includes the requirements of driveability, performance and legal targets

2. Supplier Management
To ensure the effective co-ordination and management of the engineering resource responsible for the delivery of gear shift quality (may be an external supplier). The calibration engineer shall provide direction, guidance and sign off of shift quality to the agreed project targets.

3. Project Delivery & Coordination
In conjunction with cross functional partners, you will ensure the timely delivery of calibration data to the supplier for compilation and verification. You are required to demonstrate clear evidence of development planning, and be able to report and escalate any issues or containment actions as required. Planning, booking and co-ordination of cross functional overseas testing / status drive activities will also be normal for the role.

4. Cross Functional Development
Due to the complex nature of modern powertrain systems, you will maintain strong links to all cross functional calibration and software teams to ensure that the appropriate people have the correct information and data sets to perform their tasks, and provide relevant feedback to on your system. You will play a key role in calibration integration and development forums, recognising where you are a supplier and customer in the development process.

5. Project and Calibration Status Reporting
Traceability and monitoring of calibration open points (both own and supplier) and resolution actions will form a key part of your daily activity. You will be able to report this information quickly to engineers or management in a variety of formats, including (but not limited to) KPM / PVR / CTR / Data logs / Technical presentations / MS Project timing plans. You will keep your FM informed of appropriate project and technical developments, and consult when assistance is required


Specific Information about the role

* Calibration of transmissions using INCA / CANAPE / Group tools
* Perform update and diagnostic routines on development vehicles using VAS / DIAGRA / ODIS / IDEX / VECTOR plus other group and industry tools.
* Co-ordinate the supplier resource delivering shift quality.
* Produce and present technical reports PVR / CTR / KPM for onward cascade of information.
* Produce, maintain and report MS project timing plans covering your own development activities that link to cross functional, supplier and business plans.
* Identify new and improved methodology for transmission calibration.
* Maintain an EAG project OPL and report regularly to management.


Essential Skills / Qualifications

* Fully PC literate including MS Project / Outlook / Word / Excel / PowerPoint
* Possess excellent, multi-level communication skills, Verbal and written.
* Be a proven self-starter, capable of working independently.
* Able to demonstrate multiple problem solving techniques.
* Knowledge of the calibration tools INCA / CANAPE / Group tools.
* Hold a full driving licence.
* Demonstrate own working, and working as part of a cross functional development team.

Practical & Technical Knowledge

* Demonstrate knowledge of Automatic and Double Clutch transmissions (components and operation).
* Full understanding of calibration methods, techniques and interaction with other vehicle systems.
* Appreciation of CAN bus communication networks for vehicle applications.
