The Role:

The Reliability Technician provides the workshop competence to inspect, service and repair the Reliability Vehicles and to maintain the vehicles at the appropriate level of build during the mileage program.
In addition the Reliability Technician supports the Engineers with the Analysis of vehicle related problems arising during the mileage program.


Pre-delivery inspection & servicing of Reliability Vehicles according to the company Pre-delivery inspection (PDI) & servicing of Reliability Vehicles according to the company PDI schedule
* Preparing the vehicles for road worthiness according to a schedule, including visual inspection and fitting number plates.
* Checking the function of vehicle systems in the static state to a schedule and reporting / repairing faults
* Driving and assessing vehicles on public roads, carrying out functional checks reporting concerns and carrying out basic first stage analysis of problem encountered.
* Determining requirements for parts replacement during servicing and repair work.
* Determining requirements for tools and equipment required for role
* Producing diagnostic fault logs using ODIS
* Carrying functional measurements i.e. door closing loads, Seat temperature, Seat Belt efforts in liaison with GQQ/W Analysis Engineers

Replacement of Vehicle Parts and systems according to workshop requests both in the UK and overseas using appropriate Workshop Tools and Equipment
* Replacement of any vehicle part according to workshop instruction documentation
* Parts changed in accordance with Elsa Pro
* Responsible for assuring all work is carried out and checked according to workshop standards
* Carrying out SW updates to ensure latest level of SW in Reliability Vehicles
* Responsible for updating ALPOS system

Installing, commissioning and data uploading of vehicle diagnostic equipment (Data loggers)
* Determine installation route of data logger harnesses in vehicle to enable loggers to be connected
* Install, connect and commission data logging equipment and ensure system function before mileage program starts
* Installing configuration files into logger
* Uploading of captured data to the IAV Data bases and providing trace data files to enable detailed analysis.
* Fault finding of data logger problems in liaison with Data logger Specialists

Carrying out workshop window roles and general workshop related duties to support the reliability process including Health & Safety Risk assessments and Safety reviews.
* Facilitate process improvement workshops in own area
* GQQ/W member of cross functional problem solving teams

Supporting Whole Vehicle related Drive Events up to Board Level and to Group standards
* Driving of support and event cars
* Ensure adequate preparation of workshop support vehicle with tools and equipment
* Responsible for ensuring vehicle is fully prepared for even to group standards


* Highly skilled at dismantling and fitting Vehicle parts and systems to prescribed Workshop Manual Instructions using appropriate workshop tools and equipment
* Skilled at diagnosing of vehicle faults if necessary using Electronic Diagnostic Equipment
* Skilled at installing, wiring and commissioning data logging equipment in vehicles
* Skilled at using diagnostic tools to update vehicle software
* Skilled at using functional measurement equipment (i.e. Schatz system)
* Skilled at completing all necessary Job related paperwork and writing basic reports when required.
* Skilled at using Workshop related Data Systems i.e. ALPOS, KPM, VDS etc
* Skilled at working flexibly in a Team and working towards Team Goals, Cross functionally when required
* Highly proficient at practical problem solving techniques
* Skilled at working on own initiative both locally and overseas when required.
* Skilled at using Microsoft tools Excel, Word & Power Point


* Detailed knowledge of Vehicle components and their function in more than two technical disciplines.
* Knowledge of vehicle electrical network technology and data logging equipment
* Detailed knowledge of Workshop processes and equipment
* Knowledge of Bentley products at component level
* Knowledge of Volkswagen Group Tools and Equipment


* NVQ3 minimum in an Automotive Related discipline
* Completion of a recognised Automotive related Apprenticeship
* Full Driving licence to minimum Bentley H2 level
