The Role:

Responsible for the aerodynamic development of our vehicles. Candidate must demonstrate experience in all activities related to wind tunnel and CFD programmes to achieve aerodynamic performance targets. Able to apply aerodynamic expertise to design, development and problem resolution activities working in close cooperation with other engineering functions.
Provides technical strategic leadership, in depth technical knowledge and guidance, to support and ensure achievement of business objectives and technical development, delivering on time and within budget.


Accountable for deliverables to a specified timeframe, quality and cost.

- Ability to demonstrate deliverables status at any time with Key Performance Indicators.
- Manage workload on a daily basis and respond to both long term and short term task requests.
- Support FM on project technical deliverables, financial constraints and manage to constraints
- Responsible for leading prompt concern resolution on existing processes, the coordination of resource, and ability to provide containment solutions when necessary.
- Manage any outsourced work in the same technical area, including supplier management.
- Manage budgetary requirements to meet KPI objectives.
- Managing and setting technical objectives, deliverables and monitoring
- Manages Technical deliverables, manages technical competence development, supports FM with technical/budget definition, technique and technology delivery, and defines technical status. EGP link to design functions

Developing and maintaining specialist technical and business knowledge and capability, to ensure appropriate technical direction is provided.

- Propose process and method improvements to develop departmental capability.
- Ability to lead on technical direction working with other departments/Engineers.
- Provide technical direction to other feature owners.
- Provide technical input into concepts for future development.
- Committed to own continuous professional development.

Accountable for developing and influencing the strategic technical direction within specialist area

- Demonstrate a broad awareness of process and operational requirements within the area.
- Responsible for the delivery of attribute targets
- Support and provide technical knowhow in relation to product planning.
- Advise management of strategic opportunities in areas of technical expertise.
- Develop and gain agreement for the strategic technical direction/Technical Roadmaps within specialist area.
- Keep up to date with industry innovations and relevant Group technical roadmap deployment, keeping up-to-date with acoustic technologies within area of responsibility (reading technical papers, technical conferences, sharing technical knowledge, active participation and contribution (e.g. presenting technical papers)
- Managing - development and deployment of Acoustic Simulation Engineering (e.g. - LMS, FEA, CAD, SEA, CAE, CFD, GT Power etc.)

Maintain effective communication internally and within VW Group.

- Responsibility to ensure factual and effective communication is provided at all levels, including within all cross-functional working teams.
- Participation and effective representation of function/Company in appropriate technical meetings.
- Responsible for the collation and presentation of relevant data in order to consult and lead functional /cross-functional meetings.
- Transparent issue escalation to senior management, accountable for identifying and escalating issues and risks to senior management
- Develop relationships with counterparts in appropriate internal functions and VW organisations, and provide relevant guidance to suppliers. to develop active project, technology, platform, information VW Group technical working groups
- Make recommendations and effective presentations to the business in area of technical specialism, with the ability to explain and break down technical detail/direction.

Specialist technical knowledge and ability to manage, define, improve, and develop standard of the following for specific performance attribute and technology area of responsibility:

- Expert knowledge and experience and technical reference on Competitor benchmarking (incl technologies used) and attribute target setting
- Managing technical delivery in area of attribute responsibility by setting technical objectives, deliverables, monitoring and managing workload
- Use and development of test procedures and measurement techniques & technologies
- Data acquisition and processing, archive, data management
- Data analysis and ability to write technical summary report to identify status, conclusions, concerns and recommendations
- Engineering test & validation planning, status release and sign off for systems and components
- Subjective assessment and correlation to objective status
- Design and develop of parts and systems specifications
- Expert knowledge, experience and technical reference to generate attribute design guidelines
- Ability to capture design requirements and specify, for consistent attribute performance (e.g. design for manufacturing fit and function)
- Ability to write, present status and tailor information for suitable forums and use to influence suitable decision at all forums. E-Circle, Schandentiscch, Deep Dive, Exec forums, Pilot Hall etc Challenge & influencing design for attribute performance
- Apply expert knowledge/experience from previous project lessons learnt
- Leading & Managing multiple and diverse complex problem investigations and countermeasure development and influence X-business, and applying problem solving techniques & tools
- Technical expert in leading & managing multiple and diverse definition, execution and modification in design of experiment to achieve and maximise acoustic, time and cost requirements
- Manages technical and behavioural competence development,
- Supports FM with technique and technology delivery
- Expert - identification, prioritisation, resolution of risks at X-functional level with appropriate Status & Risk Management and escalation


- Appropriate experience working in the Automotive Industry or related industries.
- Experience of process from launch to production.
- Strong influencing skills and communication, with a commitment to building positive relationships with other functions, and Group as an outward facing expert.
- Ability to share technical knowledge effectively with others, coach and guide as appropriate.
- Demonstrable experience of process improvement activities within the specific technology.
- Good business awareness and ability to make and influence strategic decisions within business context.
- Understanding and ability to demonstrate behaviours in line with the Bentley People Framework.


- Has demonstrable knowledge applicable to the technology areas in a relevant Engineering discipline to a degree level or equivalent.
- Preferably Chartered Engineer, or with a desire to achieve/currently working towards Chartered status.
