The Role:
The AIT RF Test Technician is responsible for performing unit electrical integration, and RF performance testing on spacecraft payloads, using Automated Test Equipment and manual test.
To perform equipment electrical integration, and to facilitate RF performance testing of satellite payloads and instruments manually and using Automated Test Equipment.
Must be prepared to travel to other UK and European sites at 48 hours notice. Shift work may include nights and weekends.

Working hours and patterns;
Portsmouth working may initially be normal days Monday to Friday for a period of familiarisation; however, there is an expectation that the programme will require shift work which is expected to be 4 days on, 4 days off, 4 nights on and 4 nights off. Day shifts will run from 06:00 to 18:00 or 07:00 to 19:00 and nights shifts will run from 18:00 to 06:00 or 19:00 to 07:00. A shift uplift of 20% will be paid for shift hours worked between 06:00 and 22:00 and 33% for shift hours worked between 22:00 and 06:00. Each shift includes a 1 hrs break and for the avoidance of doubt this break is unpaid.
Later in the summer it is expected that the shift pattern will move to early (06:00 to 14:00) and late shift (14:00 to 22:00) Monday to Friday. Both shifts will attract an uplift of 20%.
The shift pattern may move back to 4 days on, 4 days off, 4 nights on and 4 nights off in mid October.

Key Responsibilities;
This individual is responsible for performing electrical test activities throughout all test phases of the project life-cycle.
Perform electrical integration on payloads using both automated test equipment and manual measurements, using equipment such as oscilloscopes and multi-meters.
Perform manual RF measurements of payload equipment and sub systems using equipment such as Power Meters, Spectrum Analysers, Network analysers and signal Generators.
Run Automated test sequences using a Payload Test System (PTS) in accordance with issued test procedures.
Check performance of payload equipment against parameters detailed in test procedures and review results for non-conformances.
Perform connection of test hardware (DC, Coaxial & Waveguide) to flight interfaces following company processes.
Complete build records to comply with company quality standards.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
- RF communication engineering and measurement techniques, working to test procedures.
- Practical / hands on Electrical and RF Engineering experience including utilisation of relevant instruments
- Automated test experience/RF measurement techniques in high reliability manufacturing / test area related to communication equipment
- Knowledge of automatic test systems and result processing.
- Able to integrate easily and quickly into AIT teams and communicate confidently to internal customers
- Able to work autonomously in a pro-active and responsible manner.
- RF test experience in high quality manufacturing/test environment related to communication equipment (antennas, mobile phones etc)
- Previous use of spectrum analysers / PSA and/or network analysers (PNA, HP 8510)
- Previous use of electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.
- Experience in working to test procedures
- Availability to work abroad at short notice as well as shift, and weekend workin

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
- Telecommunication / Aerospace industry / military engineering previous experience
- Clean room experience
- Security clearance to SC level
- Knowledge of current software applied to measurement systems is desirable, knowledge of automatic test systems and result processing
- Space/Aerospace experience
