Is a leading Automotive manufacturer with a reputation for outstanding quality the world over. With demand increasing and an upturn in production, there is a need to bring further skills into the business to deliver on current and future projects.

The Role:
Main Goals and Objectives

Responsible for the structured and detailed analysis of product assembly and communicating root cause to all business levels, up to and including board members, using a range of mediums.
Detailing necessary measurement data requirements to Senior Metrology Technicians to ensure all data is captured and complex analysis is possible.
Responsible for traveling to external suppliers to assist in measurement and analysis of complex problems across a range of tools and processes.

Main Responsibilities

1a. Responsible for root cause analysis of complex build issues following logical problem solving processes working with all key stakeholders and gaining agreements across multiple functions.

1b. Presentation of findings at an appropriate technical level to both internal and external parties.

2a. Plan, schedule and initiate measurement using a range of equipment (i.e. Hand tools, Romer Arms and White Light Scanners) as appropriate and utilise this data to enable problem resolution.

3a. Provide mentoring and tuition in problem resolution techniques and advise on analysis processes to internal and external customers both onsite and at external client premises.

3b. Support Engineering in RPS locator strategy planning and work with Senior Metrology Technicians to develop measurement locator systems.

4a. Operate on an investigative level using CAD packages (Catia V5) to enable initial design evaluation when conducting root cause analysis.

5a. Support SQM and Suppliers in development of measurement plans, fixturing and the maturation of parts to the issued specification.

Skills and Experience

• Experience of interpreting and influencing engineering drawings is essential.
• Comprehensive knowledge of problem resolution techniques such as 8D, 5-Whys, Six Sigma and Fishbone.
• Extensive knowledge and experience in the use of metrology or calibration equipment.
• Excellent communication skills and experience in presenting complex data at an applicable technical level

Practical and Technical Knowledge

• Detailed technical comprehension of engineering drawings and necessary sign off criteria.
• Detailed technical comprehension of the use of metrology equipment
• Must be a team player who is able to interact and influence associates at all levels through use of factual data.
• Ability to prioritise and plan workload for themselves and others, as well as the ability to work without supervision.
• Flexibility in work patterns as the position may involve offsite / overseas / overtime / shift working in the future.
• Comprehensive and demonstrable understanding of quality tools (DFMEA / FMEA etc)
• Comprehensive computer literacy – SPC Software, Microsoft Excel, Word etc.

Qualifications

• The completion of a recognised apprenticeship or BTEC ONC / HNC technical qualification.
• A foundation degree in engineering or similar.
• A degree in engineering or similar desirable
• National Physical Laboratory (NPL) training Level 1&2 desirable
• Problem Resolution technical qualifications (e.g. Six Sigma Green Belt) would be an advantage.
