The Role:
My client is looking to recruit an Applications Engineer to perform testing in both internal and external laboratories in the UK and Europe. The successful candidate will be required to conduct Type Testing of current and new standard products so that the business can re-establish, validate and substantiate the performance of their product range under realistic operating conditions. This role does involve a high workload, but with a defined endpoint so it is proposed to recruit an experienced engineer on a 1 year fixed term contract.

The main responsibilities are:

• To plan, arrange, conduct, manage and document the type test programme in accordance with the agreed schedule.
• To interact with the manufacturing department in coordinating the manufacture of samples for the tests
• To observe the electrical characteristics of the products under normal rated operating conditions as well as observing their performance under their rated high voltage, high current surge conditions.
• To prepare structured reports for each product showing the specification of the product and how it performs against the specification.
• To amend datasheets with updated, verified data and submit for approval
• To diligently observe the safety requirements relevant to the test or test area, whether in-house or at an external test facility.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or close equivalent
• Experience in power systems and power system plant
• Computer literate (Word, Excel)
• Ability to perform data analysis
• Ability to clearly and succinctly communicate technical issues with both technical and non technical staff
• Must be able and willing to undertake short duration (~1 week) travel in UK or Europe.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or international equivalent (or working towards)
• Experience in high voltage / high current testing of power systems plant
• Experience in writing software / macros for data analysis
