Our client is an Engineering Services company, who are an international technical consultancy, providing a range of services including licence to operate, asset management, manufacturing improvement and capital investment to customers in the chemical, petrochemical, oil & gas, pharmaceutical, manufacturing and consumer industries worldwide

The Role:
This post will provide general motion support as well as becoming a specialist in PLC Motion. Assistance will need to be provided to our Worldwide internal contacts and colleagues in the individual divisions’ support teams, as well as our current UK customers.

This position requires involvement in a technical support and automation service environment. As an Applications Engineer you will be responsible for, but not limited to:

• Specialist in PLC Motion (IEC61131 programming with PLC Open Motion)
• Responding to queries raised by clients, by email and where necessary telephone, to advise them of the progress and resolve issues.
• Review queries, recreate issues to monitor the occurrence and potential solutions, and resolve accordingly.
• On-site support for customer’s applications in the UK and overseas. This may require extensive code writing.
• Provide product training to internal and external customers.
• Identify and communicate product related feedback to development and marketing teams.
• Interfacing to other products in the portfolio, such as PLC, HMI panels and drives
• Servo motor and servo drive sizing to meet customer application requirements

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Knowledge of AC servo motor and drive systems
• Programming of machines/systems requiring motion control (e.g. packaging, labelling) using either PLC or dedicated motion controller
• HNC/HND/Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g. Electrical engineering, Electronic engineering, Mechatronics)
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Proven ability in applied mathematics
• Ability to travel throughout the UK and overseas

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Experience of IEC61131 and PLCOpen motion functions
• PC programming experience, (VB/C++ / C# etc)
• Experience in a customer facing role
• Hands-on engineering/commissioning skills
• Fieldbus communication experience (EtherCAT, Modbus, E/IP etc. )
• Experience of EMC/Machine Safety requirements
