The Company:
Our client, a diverse Canadian Energy Company, plans new developments estimated at $12+ Billion over the next 5 years.

This position is open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents only. Residents of Newfoundland & Labrador will be given first consideration for this position.

The Role:
Under the authority of the Construction Manager — HVdc Specialties, You as the Area Construction Manager is responsible for oversight of construction activities and execution of the construction scope, including safety and environmental stewardship, support of contracts administration, quality control, planning, cost control, and progress reporting.

You will have a level of authority required for day-to-day decision making, as delegated by the construction Manager — HVdc Specialties, in order to fulfil the responsibilities of construction execution.

As an Area Construction Manager your main duties will involve:
• You’ll oversee Area construction operations on a day-to-day basis, and ensure that work is done safely, on time and within budget and to applicable quality and environmental standards. Also, to ensure that work is carried out according to approved contracts, specifications, and drawings.
• As the leader of the Area construction management team, the incumbent will lead a multi-functional team of construction coordinators, inspectors, contract administrators, field engineers, surveyors, etc. to ensure construction management objectives are fulfilled.
• Working with the Contract Administrator, ensure that the contractor(s) is/are fulfilling all obligations within the relevant agreement and ensure that work is carried out according to approved contracts, specifications, drawings and schedules, within authorized budgets and in compliance with safety and environmental standards.
• Champion a safety culture and strive to maintain a safe working environment.
• Proactively identify, and work to resolve, any site issues that may impede Project delivery.
• Ensure the implementation of the health & safety plan, site labour regulation and/or site agreement with collaboration of labour relations and health & safety.
• Participate in job safety analyses, complete safety observations and inspections (including follow up as appropriate), and regularly participate in tailboard discussions.
• Review the planning, organization and monitoring of site use of personal, materials, and construction equipment.
• Manage the work progress in accordance with the project schedules and the terms and obligations of the construction contracts.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
As an Area Construction Manager you will have experience:
• Bachelor of Engineering Degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Extensive background (15+ years) in Construction management.
• Possess strong people skills, with the ability to interact, motivate and lead team members and contractors. (Proven interpersonal, communications, leadership and team skills.)
• Excellent and demonstrated safety and environmental record with aboriginal, diversity and cultural awareness.
• Ability to plan work well, and to be well-organized.
• Experience in contract administration, progress verification, and claims avoidance.
• Experience in high-voltage substation construction a definite asset.
• Previous experience building in northern climates / regions considered an asset.
• Strong background in industrial relations, with previous track record of successfully executing works within a unionized labour environment.
