The Company:
Major operator is seeking an Area Control Systems Specialist for a 6 month opportunity based in Whiting, Indiana.

The Role:
The Area Control Systems Specialist is a member of the Control Systems Specialist Team, which is part of the Process Control Group. Primary responsibility is to ensure the availability and reliability of the distributed and associated control systems equipment infrastructure within the business unit. The Control Systems Specialist is a primary source of control systems technical support for all related hardware and configuration to assure 24/7 availability.

• Accountable for 24/7 technical expertise, assistance and direction for all hardware related to control and associated systems
• Administrator and owner of assigned control systems and associated equipment.
• Provides Project implementation as it relates to Control systems.
• Accountable for maintaining Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and associated equipment through activities such as hardware and software preventive maintenance
• Accountable for the implementation of scheduled Control system and associated equipment hardware upgrades.
• Accountable for the implementation of all system software upgrades
• Accountable for assigned DCS systems and subsystems data backup and restore test management
• Maintain Control System equipment digital security requirements
• Creation and implementation of performance improvement and cost savings ideas
• Spare parts management.
• Basic maintenance of regulatory control strategies, applications, and graphics
• Accountable for control system software configurations, database installs, point builds, and modifications
• Accountable for programmable logic controller hardware / software maintenance, upgrades, additions and modifications of ladder logic.
• Implementation and support of interfacing associated control subsystems DCS with use of communication link and related equipment
• Support Area Team assigned to with technical assistance with understanding the capabilities and functionalities of control systems.


One or more of the following:
• Minimum High School Diploma or GED with 10 years relevant experience in process control, instrument / Electrical, networks
• ASEET in Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) with 5 years experience in process control, instrument / electrical, networks.
• BSEET in Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) is desirable
• Experience requirement is variable, as per the above degree requirements
• Prefer experience to include Windows-based systems and networks with its associated switches, routers and firewalls.
• Ability to work independently and within a team
• Demonstrates shared commitment to the success of the team and the wider organization
• Overcomes obstacles and adapts approach to achieve outstanding results
• Very good communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience with distributed control and associated systems such as Honeywell TDC / TPS / Experion, Emerson Delta V, Rockwell, Modicon PLC’s, SIS, etc
• Basic understanding at minimum of following operating systems: Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows server 2003 & 2008
• Basic understanding of network protocols such as TCP/IP
• Basic understanding of network hardware devices including switches, routers, firewalls and cabling
• Experience with all Microsoft Office products, including Excel and Visio

Physical Requirements:
• Mixed Office-Based/Field-Based
• Ability to lift and carry/transport equipment weighing up to 100lbs with assistance of another team member, such as older model monitors, older system batteries, etc.
• Ability to utilize test equipment, hand tools, and portable power tools such as drills, screwdrivers, etc.
• The Control Systems Specialist will often work in an office or cubicle in front of multiple monitors for extended periods.
• Control System Specialist will often be required to visit the unit for projects or troubleshooting and may occasionally need to be outside in all weather conditions, climb ladders and or scaffolding.
