The Role:
In the busy Structures team there is a need to recruit a senior member of staff for our client's Stockton Office to help deliver projects, maintain an excellent service to our Clients and enhance our reputation within the industry.

Responsibilities

This role is to work as part of an engineering team, lead project work, focus on delivery to the client and mentor and coach junior members of the team.
• Agree feasibility study briefs with clients to anticipate and identify needs and expectations, and develop the project brief in conjunction with the Senior Team member.
• Review and approve feasibility study reports before issue to client, and follow up the report with the client.
• Work with client and design team to assemble a design specification compliant with the Employer’s Requirements; agree its format and content, and monitor and review its preparation ensuring delivery by the due date.
• Clearly define building requirements and purpose of use with a senior team member to allow detailed design.
• Carry out detailed design to client's and Building Regulations standards; ensure CDM, QA and technical aspects are reviewed and signed off by the Project Leader, including complex calculations and co-ordination issues.
• Ensure all Health and Safety aspects of projects are considered and integrated into the structural design and documentation; carry out regular Health and Safety reviews as required by the Company QA procedures.
• Review and monitor the production of calculations; carry out QA, technical reviews and sign off.
• Liaise with the design team and agree the appropriate programme for issuing information to external associated parties (e.g. Cost Consultant).
• Ensure the project team delivers the requisite information to assist with the preparation of the project budget, and agree the budget with the design team.
• Carry out periodic project reviews and identify risks affecting overall delivery.
• Review tender documentation and authorise tender issues; review tenders received and advise client on appointment of contractor; liaise between disciplines on multi-discipline tenders.
• Ensure there is an appropriate level of site supervision by suitably qualified personnel, and carry out periodic reviews of construction activity.
• Ensure relevant schedules of testing/commissioning and snagging are prepared and carried out by suitably qualified personnel.
• Identify the need for building and site surveys and their relevance to the project, and ensure that they are implemented in time to meet the requirements of the project
• Manage and monitor site and buildings appraisals and carry out inspections where necessary; carry out H&S risk assessments prior to staff carrying out building or site visits.
• Agree fees and additional fees and maintain client satisfaction.
• Participate in design reviews and value engineering workshops.
• Lead the design process and encourage the rest of the team to deliver appropriate and cost effective solutions to the agreed programme; support those less experienced by technical review, mentoring and advice.
• Follow in full the document control, archiving CDM and QA processes relevant to project work, ensuring drawings, specifications, reports and correspondence are issued and filed in an appropriate manner; coach junior staff in these processes.
• Select suppliers as needed for project work; assist in co-ordinating technical input including drawings from suppliers for inclusion in client's products.
• Represent the cpmpany as a member of the project team, building relationships and working closely with the project team.
• Identify and exploit opportunities to win business, obtain referrals from existing and new clients, generate and follow up leads from project teams, and monitor the quality of work to maximise repeat orders.
• Assist in producing bid documents and delivering presentations.
• Develop team spirit and co-operation within the team.
• Ensure that all relevant information with regard to day to day management, vision and values, and leadership of the business is communicated effectively to the team
• Ensure contracts / letters of intent are in place for all projects before work begins.
• Communicate PI issues to the Commercial Director in line with company policy.
• Maintain an overview and understanding of the team workload and associated resource requirements, and work with other team leaders to ensure resources are fully utilised; identify and address effectively any surplus or shortfall in available staff.
• Deliver projects to time and budget and evaluate projects to identify learning for the future.
• Identify and communicate opportunities for additional fees to the Team Leader, and negotiate additional fees with clients where appropriate.
• Bill earnings as soon as possible in the month, in line with company guidelines.
• Manage the client relationship, ensuring the client is well informed about project progress; request and act on feedback from the client to enhance the service they receive.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• BEng or MEng degree in relevant engineering discipline as a minimum standard, together with appropriate, relevant and comprehensive experience.
• You will hold Chartered status or be approaching chartered status.
• Ability to lead and undertake conceptual design, design specifications, detailed engineering design, calculations, project budget costing, site supervision and liaison work and job tender for a variety of projects.
• Experience of managing large projects as the lead engineer, winning work and commercial management is beneficial.
• Experience of people leadership is essential.
• Ability to use desktop IT packages.
• Good reputation in the local market place, and a number of clients who respect their work and want to work with them is essential.
