The Company:
Our client, a major owner/operating company, seeks expertise for an offshore mega-project to be built in Atlantic Canada.

This opportunity is open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents only.

The Role:
The Automation Engineer stewards all phases of automation engineering; Ensures that the Project's requirements, as detailed in the Project Design Basis, for all instrument and controls engineering are carried out faithfully, and in a timely fashion; Stewards automation engineering aspects of the Project; Oversees the technical work product of the Main Instrumentation and Controls Contractor (MICC) Project Manager and their organization and works with the I&C Lead to steward the cost and schedule performance of the MICC; Stewards the interfaces among the PT and the EPC contractor's organization with respect to automation to ensure quality and appropriate management of change.

Responsibilities and duties:

• Provide automation engineering technical leadership and expertise
• Steward the MICC contractor's activities with respect to automation including:
 Instrumentation engineering inputs to the Project Design Basis
 Development and design of the ICSS system
 Management of the schedule, recommended deliverables, and labor hour estimate for MICC
 Measurement and reporting of engineering progress for MICC
 MICC estimates for weight, load and heat load control reports
 Coordinate Graphics design and review with Operations and Engineering teams
 Activities and progress of High Value Engineering Center (HVEC)
 Fabrication progress of panel shops
 Development of Operations Training Simulator

• Review, evaluate, and advise:
 Instrument specifications, logic and loop diagrams
 Compliance with design methods and safety factors to be used in design of project. Reviews completed design for correctness, compliance, and operability
 Operability of the unit or plant for start up, normal, turndown, and shutdown modes. Reviews or sets design basis for abnormal operating conditions
 Technical bid tabulations for instruments and instrumentation systems
 Provide planning input for shop tests and Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and protocols
 HAZOP Action Item resolution plans and verification summaries
 Instrument Room and Control Room layout drawings

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Thorough and extensive knowledge of:
 Instrumentation and controls engineering principles, theories, and concepts
 Applicable codes, standards, and trade practices
• Thorough knowledge and expert judgment in the selection and application of automation hardware
• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
• 10+ years of closely related professional engineering experience, 3+ years of which should be at the Senior Instrument Engineer level

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs, Lotus Notes, etc.
• Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities
