The Company:
Our client, a major oil & gas operator, is looking for a Biodomain Technician in the Houston, TX area. This role supports the project scientist in the Microbial Subsurface Conversions area by formulating and executing the experimental biochemistry and microbiology programmes that deliver the Biodomain MSC R&D programme. This entails the extraction, sequencing and analysing of DNA from down-hole oil well cores; where needed to run and maintain laboratory equipment in the new Houston Laboratory

The Role:
- Run and maintain laboratory test equipment for microbiological and biochemical analysis of down-hole oilwell cores.
- Author and maintain test procedures. Receive instruction from and collaborate with project scientists.
- Deliver lab programme activities under direction of project scientist.
- Contribute to or follow agreed experimental test programmes.
- Interpret experimental data, conclude and report (including co-authoring formal reports and presentations) to agreed deadlines.
- Provide leadership and coaching to less experienced staff and students.
- Act as a role model in demonstrating safe behaviours and provide leadership in the execution of HSE management systems.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3.5 GPA BSc in a Biological science degree (Biology, microbiology, biochemistry).
- 3+ years lab R&D experience in a laboratory.
- Prior experience in the delivery of project-based activities in a research and development environment.
- Experience of running and maintaining laboratory test equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in teams.
- Designing and contributing to experimental test programmes.
- Interpreting experimental data, concluding, presenting and reporting.
- Leadership and coaching of less experienced staff.
- Leadership in the execution of HSE management systems

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Previous knowledge of DNA extraction and sequencing systems is required.
