The Company:
Is a leading Automotive manufacturer with a reputation for outstanding quality the world over. With demand increasing and an upturn in production, there is a need to bring further skills into the business to deliver on current and future projects.

The Role:
The role is based in a department which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the client that engineers, manufactures and delivers products to meet bespoke customer needs of customisation and personalisation and also engineers Enhanced Features, Limited Editions and Special Projects.

The Body & Trim Engineer will be responsible for the engineering of a diverse range of projects by using company systems and applying theoretical, practical and innovative design solutions within the relevant Engineering discipline.


1. Accountable (or responsible) for the evaluation and engineering feasibility of Feature/Project
a. Ability to evaluate the Feature/Project content and define solutions that maintains client product specifications and includes cost (material, hours, investment), quality, manufacturing & validation requirements.
b. Responsible for engineering feasibility of the Feature/Project

2. Accountable (or responsible) for the development of and delivery of Feature/Project
a. Responsible for development & delivery of the Feature/Project with respect to cost, quality & timing.
b. Responsible for the collation, presentation and issuing of documentation to support of the Feature/Project.
c. Accountable for the support of the timely delivery of all Engineering activities to meet the build timing of the Feature/Project.

3. Ability to take an analytical and systematic approach to create optimal solutions to problems
a. Responsible for design investigations supporting route cause analysis to propose the optimal design solution to meet the business requirements.
b. Responsible for prompt concern resolution including containment solutions if necessary.

4. Ability to work within a team
a. Manage, monitor and, if necessary expedite, via other functions and/or external design house, activities concerned in the design and delivery of Body & Trim projects.
b. Lead analysis & identification of design solutions to problems encountered through the development phases in a timely manner, ensuring the integrity of the Body & Trim.
c. Ability to liaise and co-ordinate across ALL areas of the business relating to Body & Trim

5. Responsible for developing and maintaining specialist technical and business knowledge/capability
a. Ability to provide design direction to CAD Engineers.
b. Give engineering and business process guidance to other associates.
c. To liaise with Functional Feature owners and external design partners.

6. Excellent time management and self-organisational skills
a. Responsible for defining and planning own workload for approval by line manager.
b. Ability to demonstrate a flexible approach to urgent unforeseen tasks.
c. Responsible for providing accurate planning information to support project KPI’s.
d. Responsible for planning own workload to achieve agreed Feature timing.

7. Engineering Documentation
a. Responsible for raising & issuing documentation into the client approved systems to the agreed task instruction in line with parts timing targets
b. Achieve cross-functional agreement prior to release as required.


Accountable for identifying and escalating issues and risks to Senior Engineer / Manager.

Responsibility to ensure factual and effective communication within all cross-function work teams


Demonstrable experience in automotive product development programmes.
Automotive Product Development experience at an Engineering level.
Proven experience in engineering development of automotive products.
Demonstrable interpersonal, influencing and leadership skills, with ability to communicate across all levels of the business and external suppliers.


Extensive knowledge and understanding of automotive design and manufacturing processes in the production of automotive products with specific knowledge of high luxury sector desirable.
Experience of multiple new product launches in the automotive industry.
Demonstrable experience in the application of Lean and Continuous improvement techniques / methodologies.
Demonstrable technical knowledge and skills appropriate for the role in applicable manufacturing processes.
Highly computer literate and have excellent presentation skills.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
HNC qualified or equivalent and/or able to demonstrate the appropriate level of experience.
