The Role:
To act as the primary interface between external or internal clients and DeltaRail’s software development teams to examine and document the relevant business models & requirements, processes, work-streams and flows of data, in order to provide the definition of the required software solution for the client concerned.
Our range of developments for a variety of rail-industry clients include models for financial forecasting and appraisals, engineering simulations, operational and signalling control. These software solutions are delivered through a mixture of embedded systems, desktop and browser-deployed solutions. Our activities are organised into project teams and for this role you will typically be working with a Project Manager and software development team.
High standards of quality are essential to our business and this role is a key component. We are looking for individuals who are self-motivated, attentive to detail, and able to grasp the business concepts involved quickly in a challenging environment.
Key Elements of Role
 Responsible for the capture, analysis, and documentation of requirements for software development projects, working closely with clients and DeltaRail’s development teams to translate client requirements into highly-specified project briefs
 Elicit and specify the functionality, information flows, processes and data structures that will meet the functional and non-functional requirements behind a business problem or opportunity
 Analyse options and produce an unambiguous, complete and consistent requirements specification that conforms to DeltaRail standards
 Perform root cause analysis on problem areas to identify the way forward
 Liaise with appropriate business and external representatives to shape logical & innovative recommended solutions to complex problems that are consistent with customer needs, DeltaRail technical architecture, support infrastructure, policies and standards
 Assist in the production of business cases and high-level project plans and identify, assess and escalate risks and issues as appropriate
 Manage the interface with the customers, both internal and external, to support the delivery of project lifecycle components through the use of established methods, techniques and tools, particularly requirements change management
 Work closely with end users and the development teams to devise more efficient and effective business processes, including working with related projects to understand and manage project dependencies and gain efficiencies where feasible
Business/Systems Analyst – person specification
 Excellent analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
 Detailed knowledge of applications development methodologies (e.g. RUP, Waterfall, Agile) either from a delivery or consultancy background
 OOAD experience
 Proficient in the use of requirements elicitation methods and processes, including prototyping
 Demonstrated team player in a dynamic, fast-moving and fast-growing product development environment
 Ability to work with high-level concepts and expand into appropriate levels of detail for systems analysis and design
 In addition to deep user-centred software development process experience, this position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with senior managers/business innovators as well as technical experts
 Degree level or equivalent qualifications
 Numerate and accurate, capable of self-checking and managing own workload
 Our clients are based across the UK and overseas and a willingness to travel is essential
 Significant business analysis experience in a software development role, both in bidding and project delivery
 Extensive practical experience with UML for software design and review
 RUP experience on large projects
 Experience of working in a structured software development environment, with particular attention on quality assurance and peer reviews
 Experience with requirements management tools, ideally Enterprise Architect
 Thorough, up to date understanding of IT consultancy approaches, tools and techniques
 Business process, workflow and data modelling experience
 Experience of Business Process Re-engineering
 Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
 Experience of producing project feasibility reports, & presenting proposals to clients
 ISEB Diploma in Business Analysis
 International Institute of Business Analysis membership
 Background in analysis for engineering/utilities/transport industry applications, particularly
